Guest guest
I was diagnosed with AIH about two weeks ago. I was on a medication called Parlodel and also took a lot of Tylenol for headaches right when I started feeling bad, which lasted about two weeks before I was diagnosed. Needless to say, I did not know what was wrong with me, so I kept taking Tylenol thinking I'll get over the bug I have. I had pretty elevated ALT and AST. I think they were like 750 and billirubin was 5.4. After I learned this, I stopped taking meds and and went down to 650 and 3.4 in a week. Then the doc put me on Prednisone and Imuran and my levels went to normal in less than two weeks. Does this sound like it could be caused by the drugs? When I told the doctor about they Tylenol and other medication, it was like he didn't even listen to me, like that wasn't even possible that that could be causing the inflammation. He tested me for the anti-smooth muscle antibody and it was positive. Can you have the antibody caused from medication you have taken too much of? I was contemplating getting a second opinion. Anybody have any thoughts?
Guest guest
It never hurts to get a second opinion. They did not think mine was AIH but I have a positive ANA and did have a positive ASMA. I was on a short course of prednisone so I don't know if that deletes the ASMA. So, I think it is possible to have these antibodies and not be liver related-not my opinion though! You could have some other autoimmune thing going on too. Susie
Guest guest
From what Ive read if the liver inflammation is caused by drug toxicity, stopping the drug in question will cause the numbers to reduce. I don't think it can cause an AMA or other Ab's to be positive. I will be interested to see what the rest of you all think.. jody --- ADilli5783@... wrote: > From: ADilli5783@... > > I was diagnosed with AIH about two weeks ago. Guest guest
I think a second opinion is always wise. Before I ever started on Imuran and prednisone I got a second opinion. Did the doc mention a biopsy in your future? Roxanne
Guest guest
Thanks . I have printed off this post and will probably call after my next appointment at UVA. I go on 10-17-02. Time for a 2nd biopsy. My daughter is an EMT in Blacksburg and she was really impressed when they transported a kidney transplant patient to Duke. She's right, Duke is probably the smartest choice for a 2nd opinion as I live in Richmond VA and do not want to go to MCV. How long did it take you to get an appointment? Guest guest
, I believe it took about one month to get the appointment. My gastro doc set it up. It was worth the wait. I had the liver biopsy performed by my gasto and the biopsy came back AIH. That's when he made the decision to refer me. He says he only treats approx. l-2 pts per yr with AIH. I really respected my gastro's decision. I am quite familiar with Blacksburg. My husband is a VA Tech grad and we are still big HOKIE fans. Are you a Cavalier fan? I love Blacksburg. We are originally from Galax, VA. Always good to hear from a VA person. B. AIH 9/00 Re: [ ] RE: 2nd opinion Thanks . Guest guest
, I went to the Duke Web site and read about your Dr. I also e-maled the department to see if I could self refer. I don't want to upset the Hepatologist at UVA and I don't think it would however, my last visit with him he was not himself and this is why I'm going to get the 2nd opinion. I know my local Gastro will refer if needed. I HAVE to be a Hokie fan or my daughter would shoot me. I must admit the best games are alwasy UVA and TECH. When my daughter got married last year you should have seen the entire wedding party and guest had to get up and dance to the Hokie Pokie by order of the grooms mother. Not a preatty sight, but I guess most people had had enough to drink that they really didn't care. Thanks so much for the info and I will let you know how things progress. Guest guest
, good luck in your efforts at obtaining an app't at Duke. I believe you would really like Dr. Heneghan. If you should get an appointment with him, mention my name. He has been great. I think it is always aggravating when you have questions and live as far away as we do and can't just run by the clinic when we feel we need to do so. However, Duke is a great place. The Hokie Pokie is so much fun! B. Re: [ ] RE: 2nd opinion , I went to the Duke Web site and read about your Dr. I also e-maled the department to see if I could self refer. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, So glad you got positive feedback from the second opinion. It sounds like you are a 'bit' more relaxed now. Sometimes you just have to get that second opinion to feel more at ease. And like you said the doctor didn't think it was as bad as the first ENT thought. Please keep us posted how your husband is doing and our prayers are with you. Kim

Is there a strong enough medication though that can help you with the pain? Also, can your condition get any worse? If so is there a way to prevent it? A firend of mind was diagnosed with MS and of course for her it took years to finally find out what was wrong and all they can do is give her these shots to help it not get worse. I know yours is different but I wonder if there is something that can help. Also, with your condition can they do the radio frequency lesing? I know when I had that it helped with the pain for several months. I wish you the best of luck in getting something to help you be painfree. Also, I have heard from others that acupuncture has worked for them have you tried it yet? I was debating about that myself. Joy Joy

Guest guest
right now my dr has me on " tramadol " which is great it helps me alot, also im on " ibuprofen " which is great , and " amitriptyline " which is great. these are working real good the pain is still making itself known but i do feel some better. and acupuncher NO , i don't like like and never will heard to much about that and were talking there at the spine and i have so much there now i really don't want no more addingthere , not trying to be rude but thanks but no thanks. and its just amzing to me how neither dr knows each other and told me word-for-word what each one said. he told me no surgery would help. i mean no surgery so i would not have beleived him but my dr of 10 years has told me this and this dr wouldn't give me no meds " BEING " a country type dr , so i went with not only a different dr and whom i have known by some else in my family i gave him a chance and took my mri with me since i didn't want him to think i wanted to see him just to get drugs which he thanked me for and told me he didn't understand why they did't do something back in 1987 so now the damge has been done its to late , he said i could have sygery but the pain will continue so i say why pay for a DEAD horse , know what i mean so as i mentioned now here i sit 17 years later and for the rest of my life in pain. but i do hope i answered all your Q's. but what im taking now my country dr would not even give me that , the wife says he doesn't believe in thoes kind of meds , well i say if he don't then he dam well better get out of practicing meds ya know . due to all pain is so differet and not every bodys pain is the same . so that another reason why i went to seek another opinoin. but this is my life and im living it the only way i know. with the exceptions of certain things like sex but as my nurologist told me years ago you have to do things differently like every one else but a longer way around so im working with it..and i will talk later......Larry Re: 2nd opinion > In a message dated 3/25/2004 1:26:17 AM Eastern Standard Time, > eagles55@... writes: > at ....at this point and time...i will be talking to you all again > > in CHRIST love...Larry > > So sorry Larry to hear this. Guest guest
We saw a Pediatric Neurosurgeon fisrt who passed us off and said was very mild plagio and he didn't suggest banding her. I didn't feel comfortable with that so we went for another opinion to a craniofacial surgeon and he classified her high mild-moderate plagio. Make sure that whichever specialty you choose that you make sure that they work with kids with plagio. We also got opinions from an Orthotist from Cranial Solutions and from Hanger (which is where she will be banded). Good luck with everything and go with your gut.
