[ ] Question for ladies mostly

Hi everyone,

This is Steph in VA and I have a VERY personal question regarding sex. I took

Sulfasazine for most of the 8 years I have had RA. My rheumy just stopped it in

August b/c it was causing me to be anemic. Well, sulfasazine caused a slight

vaginal discharge. Anyway, since stopping the sulfa I have been very dry in my

vaginal area so sex with my husband is now uncomfortable, almost painful. I have

my next rheumy visit on 11/16 but I know he'll tell me to see the gyno. My

annual visit with her isn't until January so I figured I posed the question to

all of you first before going to the doctor early.

Thanks,

Steph in VA

Steph,

I know that thyroid disease can cause dryness, don't know if you have that

too. Also you can start peri-meno pause 10 years before menopause. I know

that can be frustrating. I don't know if you have tried more pre-time to

see if that helps (sometimes you need more time to start your engine) or a

good lubricant.

I am still on sulphasalazine and I have never had painful sex with my

husband or any discharge...is that a possible side effect?? I think

you should see your gyno...they would best be able to tell you what

is going on.

How long have you and your husband been trying for a baby? The

reason I am asking is because my husband and I tried for years before

we gave up. I didn't want to pass on my horrible medical history to a

child and we both always wanted to adopt in the first place.

Best of luck to you!!

how old are you Sreph?

could this be more of a menopause issue instead of ra?

I'm 30, so I doubt it is menopause. :)

I'm 35 and my doctor just tested me for early

menopause but I was having really bad nightsweats and

other symptoms. I've only been on sulfasalazine a

year but so far I haven't had that problem...but those

medications affect us all so differently:)
