No biopsy here. It has never even been suggested, and I don't feel the need

one one. Good luck. I've never heard of the heterogenous thing, and would

also like to know what that means. Haven't seen it discussed on any of the

fibroid websites, either. Dorie

Hi,

Heterogenous (there is no e after the n) it means derived from a

different source or species, such as a xenograft. This difinition

comes from a medical dictionary.

I did have a biospy done of my fibroid, since the doctors where

concerned how fast my fibroid grew. My fibroid was intramural -

anterior wall. The type of biopsy I had done was a punch biopsy where

they use a special punch gun that has a needle on the end to get

pieces of the fibroid, the radiologist told me that he would only had

to do it 2 to 3 times to get enough sample but with that punch gun he

could not get enough tissure so he resort to fine needle aspiration

of the fibroid tissue, actually the biospy was done through my

stomach. The results were back in 1 week I think and everything

turned out fine, showing it was only a fibroid and no cancerous

changes.

I need to add that the reason she suggested an mri was not because it was

heterogenous. Rather, it was because of the " hyperechogenicity of the

posterior wall of the fundus " . In other words, the posterior wall of the

fundus which was hidden by the fibroid showed up on the ultra-sound as being

unusually dense. Or, there is something else back there that needs to be

seen. That's why she suggested the mri. She said this could be a malignancy

or it could be the fibroid, or it could be another fibroid. I still can't

believe

that three docs ignored this.

I see my 4th doc on March 6. She's very experienced. And I'm more

experienced now too.

TErry

Not from another pathologist. The biopsies were read at Bostwick, which is a

top level lab. I asked the oncologist at the local university what he thought

and he agreed with the diagnosis.
