Guest guest
Deborah, All I can say is what has worked for me, but I have lost almost 50 pounds. I started IE in November 2006 so it has been a year but I will say this is the longest I have ever kept the weight off. It is possible to lose weight. It is just a slow process and something which can't be rushed. Some will say that IE is not about losing weight. I think it is and while it has been frustrating sometimes it is better than obsessing over food and how much to eat or what you can't eat. Nothing is off limits. Hope this helped. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Michele mythreechildren2001 wrote: I ordered Intuitive Eating, but I haven't received it yet. I need tolose 75 lbs. Guest guest
Michele- HOW did you lose 50# in less than a year? Did you limit what you ate? Limit portion sizes? Increase your exercise? to me that sounds kinda like a diet . I'd love to know how IE helps with weight loss, cause frankly, I'm starting to think its just an excuse for my weak willpower to be justified. OR maybe IE is just another kind of diet in disguise and those who can stick to it get great results and once again, I can't stick to it, so it doesn't work. As long as I've been on this board I've never heard people say it caused weight loss like that. If you can share what happened in your mind, head, life that caused that kind of loss, please share, I'm getting desperate enough to go on a juice fast for a couple of weeks. I can't stand myself anymore. All this "love yourself, be gentle" stuff is starting to sound like a line of BS to me. I think WW for life might be my solution after all. thanks for your help, CW __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I'm not Michele, but I lost 25 pounds in two months. I DID NOT diet, exercise, limit portions or 'diet' in any other disguise. I did not even try to lose weight - it was not about weight at all. After 20 years of living (and dieting) in a way that did not make me happy, I decided it was time for it all to STOP. It wasn't working, never had, so why was I still doing it? It was time to stop listening to what everyone else expected me to be and live how I wanted. I decided what I wanted my life to be like - and started living that way - strong, independent, healthy, active - As a result, I became one. (and a size 5/6 as well) > > Michele- > HOW did you lose 50# in less than a year? Did you limit what you ate? Limit portion sizes? Increase your exercise? to me that sounds kinda like a diet . Guest guest
I think the most important, and most difficult, part of IE is self-acceptance. That DOESN'T mean the weight won't come off, 'cause it will. But it will be a slower process than you'd probably like, and the main focus won't be on weight, but on deeper issues. I've only lost a couple of pounds so far, but, even after only a couple of months, I feel a huge shift in my outlook and attitude. I'm finally, FINALLY, starting to reject the narrow societal view of beauty and to accept myself as I am, warts and all. Not just physically, but on the inside as well. I berate myself less, and have a little less guilt (the guilt is gonna take a while to let go of, lol!). So, yes, absolutely, it will really work, and it will really change your life for the better. > > I ordered Intuitive Eating, but I haven't received it yet. I need to > lose 75 lbs. Guest guest
I too hope to learn more about why I seem to medicated myself with food, because I really don't know. I want to learn to recognize the cues that I know are there as to whether or not I need to eat, and I want to feel some sort of control over food...especially sugar. I don't expect it to be an especially rapid process, but I've seen what diabetes has done to my father. Our family has been through a lot this month because of that terrible disease. I want to do all that I can to avoid that fate. That is what spurred me into action.

Guest guest
Long Post - Sorry.... I must say - I haven't lost a pound, but I have gained more self-confidence, more self-love over the last couple of months that I never had when I was dieting and was about 10-15 pounds less than I am now. I may or may not lose weight doing IE, but I believe (and others will disagree, but I really do believe) that IE is not about losing weight. It's about getting your life back and enjoying it again. I'll explain it with an example. This Wednesday I helped one of my friends host a party. I made all sorts of treats - more food than I've made in ages (really great food at that). I nibbled all day and all night without guilt. I realized this when one of my friends who came to the party looked absolutely miserable. She looked miserable to everyone. Someone actually asked me later in the night, if I thought she had any fun. The reason for the misery was quite simply that she started another diet and all the food was calling her name in temptation and right next to it was guilt. She couldn't handle the two dreaded emotions caused by seeing the food and being on a diet, so she left the party early without really being able to let go and have fun. I realized that night - why IE works. It works because it lets you live your life free of food temptation and guilt. You get to stay at the party and enjoy the company and the food - guilt free. It also works because you will have the self-confidence to not worry about your weight. As I said, I may or may not lose any weight because my body might just be happy where it is. But that is my body (and just to provide some perspective, my body is a happy size 12). Yours may react differently. You may find that once you have worked through IE and been able to enjoy your life without the food guilt, the weight might just start coming off. And I would say that it would be just a wonderful bonus to the joys of being free to have fun, live live and let go of the guilt. > > i have lots of pounds to lose also...but i realize it is deeper issues that are keeping the pounds on how to get going...I actually gained instead of lost pounds...I try not to get stressed over this. >

Guest guest
Deborah,I have 200lbs to lose and I started EI about 5 months ago. I have had days where it works well for me and days that I think its all bull to, Reading posts and getting support here has really helped me. I have lost 7 lbs since I started but in the beginning I started gaining weight and was really upset. I had to learn to let it go and no restrictions. Now I am working on making healthier choices when I eat. I am a emotional eater and now I let them out on whoever is standing near by.Not so good for them but great for me. I actually found that some of the foods I was eating out of emotions I really do not like. Give it some time everyone is different and you'll see. Guest guest
I do believe that IE is about losing weight. I have been so bad about eating mindlessly that with IE, eating mindfully has caused me to release the weight. I started out weighing almost 380 pounds and I am now down to 337. If this is not losing weight than I must be doing something wrong. We are each at different parts of our journey with IE. I did not have to legalize any food because I ate whatever I wanted. There was nothing offlimits as you can see from my weight. So the only thing I had to work on with IE was only eating when I was hungry and stopping when I was satisfied. This was my first step. Then my body started to crave good food and I started to give it to her. I still don't eat good food all the time (healthy food) but I still try to watch my hunger/fullness levels and I think that is what has helped me lose weight with IE. I do not treat it as a diet. I do not count calories. I do not measure portion sizes. I simply eat when I am hungry and stop when I am satisfied.
