Oh, Lynda, I should of said that I can NOT take HC without Milk. I have a small

frig in my closet, so I can have milk anytime without leaving the room. My

husband and I both, for years, sometimes get up during the night and drink milk!

I have Acid Reflux also. It comes and goes. I have not decided exactly what is

the cause, for me. I do know that HC without eating or drinking milk will

bring it on. Also if I eat to much. I have to eat small amounts of food

several times a day. Going to long without eating will sometimes bring it on.

ACVinegar doesn't help for me. Though I do take and believe in the benefit of

taking ACV. When I don't sleep well, seems like Acid Reflux is worst the next

day.

Maybe you could put milk in a thermos and keep it on your night stand? I just

know for me taking HC as early as possible gives me more alertness early.

Otherwise, I don't seem to be able to function until later in the day.

Kat

Kat,

thanks, so are you able to take h/c without food? I always have

breakfast first because I have problems with reflux/heartburn

you sound like me or how I used to be. I don't get acid reflux much

anymore but I still avoid things that would bring it on.

Have you tried mastic gum? It comes in capsule form and I took 500mg

3 times a day for 2 weeks, it cured my acid reflux for a few months.

It came back so I took mastic gum again for another 2 weeks and have

been good for several months now.

I would try your suggestion of taking it milk except that I can't

drink milk, it makes me gag. Haven't had milk since I was old enough

to say no. I think I just need to keep something to eat and a drink

of water by the bedside. Most mornings I'm up by 5.30 anyway so it's

not really a problem. I slept a bit later this morning because I had

been coughing all night

I have never heard of mastic gum?? I can't believe you don't like milk! lol

I have to drink my milk. I got up at 5:30am this morning b'c the dog woke me

up, otherwise I am up at 6am. But I need HC early so I am alert and willing to

get right up.

I was once told by someone in the medical profession that having acid reflux is

from, hmmm I want to say valves, open up to let the acid out and don't close

back up. So we get to much acid. I am not explaining this correctly but this

would make since when taking ACV doesn't seem to work. That's why I am

skeptical about Acid Reflux being a need for acid. It just doesn't seem to be

true in my case.

I have GERD because of the valve problem (I, too, don't remember what it's

called). Some people have it due to the h pylori bacteria and can be helped in

other ways. I need to either have a surgical correction which may not last or

take meds.

Have you ever tried taking enzymes instead?

I don't understand how enzymes could keep the stomach

contents from splashing back through the damaged

Hiatus (I think that's what it's called). I do take a

digestive enzyme tablet with dinner.

The problem is that the food is not being digested properly. Foods

that don't lend themselves to being easily digested are the usual

offenders. Most of us don't eat whole foods anymore. The body

continually tries to digest the food by adding more and more stomach

acid. That acid then causes the problem of acid reflux, GERD, etc.

Instead of having patients address their diets, doctors give us

Prilosec or Nexium to neutralize the stomach acid. Your body needs

the acids to help digest the food. Unless one is eating a diet that

about 80% raw, you are not getting the proper amount of enzymes with

food. Enzymes are vital to how your body functions and without

enzymes, vitamins and minerals cannot properly work. The enzymes

help digest the food. Enzymes should be taken with every meal. If

the food is digesting properly, the body doesn't constantly try to

keep churning out the stomach acid. The Prilosec or Nexium stops

digestion by halting the production of stomach acid. The food then

sits there much longer than it should, causing things like peptic

ulcer, IBS, Crohn's, chronic colitis, leaky gut syndrone, and colon

cancer. These drugs set the stage for auto intoxication, which

causes chronic allergies, jaundice, kidney disease, acne, hepatitis,

psoriasis, blinding headaches, arthritis, pancreatitis, chronic

fatigue syndrome, depression, infections, fibromyalgia, septicemia,

multiple joint pain syndrome, dermatitis, autoimmune disorders,

candida albicans and cancer.

Having excess stomach acid doesn't come from a Prilosec, Nexium or

Zantac deficiency. The problem itself should be addressed, not just

cover up the symptoms. Read the fine print on these drugs and you'll

see the dangers involved in taking them long term. They are not

meant to be taken like that. Most doctors have no clue about that

and an even smaller number of them understand anything about nutrition.

I got a big kick of the pharmaceutical industry when they came out

with Nexium. All of a sudden Nexium was promoted to be so much

better than Prilosec, when all that happened was that the patent ran

out on Prilosec. It was time to bring out the latest and newest

drug, that viola, just happens to have a new patent protection in

place for the next couple of decades!!

Most of the really effective digestive enzymes come in capsule form...not in

tablet form. Here's the one I use. Others on our forum may have even better

suggestions in the way of didgestive enzymes.

Further on this subject...when your temps run low as they do with HypoT, enzymes

don't function properly. They become malformed and less effective at doing what

they are supposed to do. So getting your temps back up to 98.6 plus taking

enzymes that you would usually get in the foods you eat but no longer do because

of what Linn said helps get our bodies back where they should be...in balance.

I haven't been really focusing on candida...just trying to get my energy levels

up and pain levels down.

I thought I was doing okay in the candida department though. Not sure now.

I've been taking Kyo-dophilus 2x/day and Digest Gold with meals for about a

year. I do know that when I run out of either, I start to feel crappy again.

Some on my IC forum use the Femdophilus with great success for vaginal yeast

issues. This came out long after my yeast issues resolved and that happened for

me when I went to work on balancing sex and thyroid hormones. Amazing huh?

may have even better suggestions in the way of didgestive enzymes.
