Guest guest
Hi , I saw the surgeon today that specializes in minimally invasive surgeries for a second opinion...just in case my back could be fixed that way. But, he said, no. My back needs major surgery, multi-level fusions. I saw him about my lumbar spine, but my neck is also in trouble. My cervical spine has a reversed curve, degenerative disease with multilevel disc desiccation, disc space narrowing, and posterior disc bulge with protrusions (3 mm at C3-C4, 4 mm at C5-C6), Mild hypertrophic facet arthropathy causing mild bilateral neuroforaminal stenosis. My lumbar report is massive, so I will condense it as much as I can: I have spondylolisthesis at several levels, retrolisthesis, multilevel disc desiccation, multilevel disc bulges (on is over 6mm in size), severe neural foraminal stenosis, lateral recess stenosis, bilateral facet arthropathy. Carol In a message dated 4/23/2007 3:33:04 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, kyrik@... writes: Mine, too. I've got a ramrod straight cervical spine (it's supposed) to curved) with 3 bulging discs, and two in my lumbar. Then there's scoliosis in the thorasic. I hope yours is okay And that you can do something minimally invasive is you have to do any at all... ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Hi Fayray. The doctor I saw yesterday said that L3 and L4 were almost fusing on their own. What was that you were saying about donor bone? Thanks for trying to get a referral for me! I really appreciate it! Carol In a message dated 4/24/2007 5:43:14 A.M. I did speak to my neuro's nurse and she was going to talk to the doc today about a neuro referal in your area. Hang in there and keep us posted. Hugs and Prayers. Guest guest
I also had herniated disc and NOTHING helped. After taking steroids for 2 years my neoro was afraid my liver and kidneys were failing. I opted for spinal fusion L-3,L-4,L-5,S-1. He removed what was left of the discs and fused the donor bone to the spine. All should have been (wonderful) afterwards but of course it's not. I hope all goes well for you. Hang in there. We're there for you. Hugs and Prayers. Guest guest
The doctor who is supposed to do my surgery is an Orthopedic Spine surgeon, not a neurosurgeon. Should I be worried about that? I guess you haven't heard from your doctor's office yet about that referral? Carol In a message dated 4/24/2007 11:11:40 A.M. When I had my surgery in April 05', that DONOR bone cost $50,000.00. Did you see a neuro or an ortho? Hopey your having a good day. It is raining here and I am aching from head to toe. Guest guest
Hi Carol I had a spinal fusion in 1997, very successful, of my lower spine L5. I had a spinal surgeon, and he took a piece from my hip to fuse it. I have never regretted my decision at all. If you don't feel comfortable with your doctor get a second opinion, it's your body after all. Also ask around, although most people think that their doctor is the best, fair call to if he's helped. Good luck and don't be scared, but be prepared for hard work during your recovery period. Guest guest
If it is not med mal, I still think it is negligence. How do you end up in a neck collar after surgery just because you have a little arthritis in there? --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Guest guest
DDD is not just an arthritic condition, it is a genetic disc problem, it is pre-existing, and is not negligence. Four elements must be present to prove negligence, and these are not present in this case, by default of the health condition. Even if a person has surgery and a year later develops arthritis in the area where surgery occured, there was a genetic predisposition to arthritis present in that person's body, a pre-existing condition. Like it or not, it is how our bodies work. > > If it is not med mal, I still think it is negligence.
