Hi there

Has anyone heard of a store called " walking on a cloud " ? Apparently they

deal in shoes specifically designed for RA and other problems with " feet " .

thanks

Cathie, I have bought shoes there. They carry brands which are well

constructed and people with foot problems like mine can often find good

shoes there. I know they have a number of stores in the Toronto, Canada

area.

I don't have the sensitive walking on marbles feeling anymore, but it is the

tops of my feet touching my shoes that is sensitive. The tendons are

really sensitive. My fingertips feel tight and are almost like they are

chapped. It is mostly on my thumbs and forefingers. My feet aren't

swollen either. I don't have the feet going to sleep but I did in the

past. I hate that feeling when they start to wake up and you get the pins

and needles. I have never had that with RA, just numb hands at night which

I don't have any more.

I've also heard people say that Methotrexate, although

effective on controlling the overall symptoms of PA, had little effect on

their feet. Anyone out there with foot problems and solutions - I'd love

to hear from you!!!

Thanks,

I suppose it would depend what kind of problems you're having with your feet as to whether MTX will help. I was getting active bone erosion in the ball of my right foot (tig toe joint) and the surrounding tendons were inflamed and painful. The MTX seems to have halted the progression of the joint erosion. When I have a flare now, the tendons there get painful but the bony enlargement of the joint seems to have stabilized.

I have also seen an improvement in my overall level of pain from standing - before I started the MTX, I was ready to see a podiatrist because of pain in hips, knees, and feet. I thought there was a biomechanical problem with my feet, but everything has improved since I started the MTX.

Hope this helps.

I have the same problem with my feet. They are very painful, and my

toes are also going every which way. I think its the disease that

causes this. Tawny

i would ask both podiatrist and rheumi!!! feet can hurt really bad. my feet

used to hurt so bad i'd want to cut them off. boy am i glad i didn't!!! i am

trying to figure out where to go for my problems!!! Saturday i was woken from

sleep with a spasm in my right calve. i fly out of bed and can hardly stand.

my left foot was in pain. my right leg spasm had my leg like a ballerina. i

kept falling on to my bed 3-4 times. finally i was able to break the spasm and

put my leg down to walk to the kitchen to get a soma and went back to bed. i

left my house twice this weekend.last night i was still using my countertops

to hold me up at first. wasn't sure what brought that on. my diet has not

been as healthy since my son moved back home. we have been eating very cheaply

(hot dogs, fish sticks, mac & cheese) so i ate an orange to give me potassium

and i started working out again. don't know why that stopped when my son came

home. i was able to work today and i feel a little better, almost thought

about mowing the grass. but i think i've talked myself out of that now. made a

chiro visit thursday, but i know he will work me in if i need it sooner.

Mine are like that my doctor calls it clawing of the toes, I don't think you

can help it I am careful with my shoes as well it is my feet and hands that

trouble me the most although my knees have started. I am thinking about

asking my GP for a steroid injection just to make me feel a bit better.

My feet hurt, also that is what took me into the dr in the first

place, pain and swelling in my three middle toes on each foot with

some overlap on the left.

I'm sorry to say it is part of the disease. Your toes can curl and

stiffen in positions called claw toe or hammer toe.

Here are some websites that explain it:

http://www.podiatrychannel.com/hammertoes/

http://www.foot.com/info/cond_clawtoes.jsp

A podiatrist may help you find ways to minimize the damage. You should

also discuss it with your rheumy.

Hey there. I have not posted for quite a while. I have been doing so

much better this past spring and summer. Not looking forward to

Winter! I continue to have problems with my feet, specifically my

toes and the ball of my feet. I have lost some of the feeling and

movement in my toes, and the feeling I do have, Hurts! I'm having

trouble finding any kind of shoes that I can wear comfortably. Anyone

else in that boat with me? Do I see a Podiatrist? My Rheumitologist

hasn't been much help with this.

Hi ! My RA has effected my feet the worst. The only relief I get is from

wearing orthotics, which I got from my podiatrist, and New Balance athletic

sneakers. I purchased the sneakers from www.brownsnewbalance.com. Locally, I

have a hard time finding shoes my size and this site carries sneakers in larger

sizes and widths with pretty decent prices. I wear my sneakers all day long

because I can't walk barefoot without a lot of discomfort.

I have spent the last several months wearing mostly Crocs and have found

them extremely comfortable. I have a lot of problems with my feet and have

had 1 surgery and I know I will be having a second later this year. My

podiatrist even recommends Crocs.

I use New Balance 801 for outside and Isotoners in the house. Both

are croc type footwear. My PA is highly concentrated to my feet and

ankles. Tried just about every brand too. This is what works for

me....For now.
