Guest guest
Deneen So sorry your pain is so bad. I think the pain can last awhile before the meds start kicking in. Prednisone can be a lifesaver and a curse but you have to do what helps you. Hang in there! You just have to find the right combo for you. Ok, last night.....was THE worst night EVER! I was in EXTREME pain, so much that I had to go to the ER. My wrists were hurting SO bad, that I couldn't get on the computer, I couldn't pick a piece of lint off of my shirt, no kidding! I went to the hospital and they ended up putting me on Naproxen and Prednisone (I already take Methotrexate 7 pills a week). I woke up this morning feeling extremely energetic. I was in no pain. I don't like the prednisone, however, I cannot take that pain I felt last night again! I am just concerned because I think there is something else going on with my wrists. Usually with my RA, the pain is gone in the specific area within a couple of days. However, with my wrists this has been going on for about 2 weeks! Does anybody else have pain for this long? I think the prednisone and naproxen should definitely help, but I am going to look into PT and swimming at the local YMCA.
Guest guest
Have you considered moving into the Remicade, Embrel, Humeria drugs? I just recently started Remicade and just after 3 infusions, what a difference! The pain in the morning of getting out of bed and walking, where it felt like I was walking on glass shards is gone, g-o-n-e, gone. Just a thought. Guest guest
Deneen, I'm sorry you are feeling so awful! I really hate these blasted diseases! I started getting symptoms in February 2007 and finally sought out help in March... I continually get new symptoms almost like Christmas in reverse... Every month or so I get a new present/problem/issue.... Anyway, MY wrists have been bothering normally at least four days out of the week for almost two months now.... I don't know how normal this is or not, but its really painful and irritating. The swelling is so bad and tender that I can't even wear a watch or bracelet... Even as I'm typing, I'm literally feeling pain and I use to be able to type up to 65 words per minute... Now, I think I'm down to about 20 wpm... Its affecting my time at home, time at work, and I can't even hold a beer comfortably.... So now I can't even try to drink my pain away...Grrrrr lol If I loose my sense of humor, then I know I've lost all hope.... So please excuse my lame attempt.... Hope you can find relief soon.... Guest guest
Pain in the wrists is usually associated with blockage up in the trapezoids. One can work on one's hands, even go in for the slice and dice, and the pain will return until this is cleared. Do you have a good Pranic healer or Reiki person where you live? They can often help with this. I have also heard of a chiropractor here in MI that understood this, but I have not spoken with him. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Lilian.. I'm glad I could make your day a little brighter.... Why did you only get Cortisone in one wrist? Is that all your allowed at one time? I am very new to all of this and I'm trying to absorb as much as I can so that if I ever need to cross one of these bridges I'll know what to expect (or at least have a slight idea). Friends of our's called last night to see if we were going out this weekend. I don't go out much anymore mainly because I haven't told many people about my issue's (only family and this list)... Its hard to explain something, when you don't even have a strait diagnosis.... You almost start to believe its stress or just head games... Anyway my hubby said we have to go because we keep turning people down (plus its my 32nd B-day)... So I guess I'm going our to dinner etc... My hubby said that I need to order drinks that have straws.... He even said I could have one in my beer so that I don't have to hold it (lol). Either way, I guess I'm going to be forced to let the cat out of the bag... Maybe it will be one of my good nights, I get them about twice a week, then I wont have to tell anything... Hope today you will be pain free Bonnie > > > > First off, I have to say thank you to everyone in this group. You > > guy's rock! Guest guest
Hi Bonnie - the reason I got the cortisone injection in only one wrist was the pain and new swelling. My rheumatologist called it " activity " which I gather is another word for a flare-up of R.A. Both of my wrists are swollen, but believe me, you will know when you have a flare up. Since I am right-handed, I managed pretty well, since it was my left wrist that was involved. I can still brush my teeth and use a curling iron, although I have burned my face with a slipping iron. - Lilian Bonnie <tiredtaz@...> wrote: Hi Lilian.. Guest guest
Ouch! I have dropped alot of things lately due to loss of finger control and week muslcles, but nothing like a hot curling iron... I hope you didn't get any blistering or scaring from it... Unfortunately, I have had two major flare ups in the past 7months that have sent me gimping into the emergency room.... I have just never been given the option for cortisone shots. I'm not sure I will ever get them anyway, as I really hate needles, but I guess one never can tell. -- In , Lilian Macauley <lilmacauley@...> wrote: > > Hi Bonnie - the reason I got the cortisone injection in only one wrist was the pain and new swelling. Guest guest
Ohh-scary! Thank goodness nothing was re-injured. From: musician12858 <musician12858@...> Subject: Last night Joint Replacement Date: Tuesday, April 12, 2011, 8:45 AM  I was on my way to a band rehearsal in a new hall (the old building was condemmed). As is typical, a gym floor is painted to outline areas for basketball, etc. The floor was painted a dark blue in the center. Right ahead of me was also the same dark blue. What I did NOT notice was that it was a huge floor mat. I headed right for it and tripped on the edge of it and went right down.
