Guest guest
Hi, Kathy...I've never before heard that arthritis could be in some cases an autoimmune disorder. Any chance you could give us some cites? Also, while type 1 diabetes is autoimmune induced, type 2 definitely isn't. I assume you have type 2, so the short answer to your question would probably be " no " . Guest guest
Kathy, you don't say which type arthritis you have so I am assuming that you have not gone for a diagnosis on this. To let you know, there is about a 100 different types, affecting different things. Depending on what type you have, yes, it could be autoimmune. I have one. I am so far controlling with diet (remarkably similar to Atkins) and constant movement (exercise would be better). Weight will be a contributing factor, supplements can help, too. I helped myself by joining a couple of arthritis groups here on yahoogroups. Just like this list, those " families " were very helpful. , Texas > In a message dated 4/18/02 6:42:19 PM !!!First Boot!!!, > ottercritter@c... writes: > > << Diabetes doesn't cause arthritis as far as I know, but it can cause it > indirectly, in that if we are obese, all that extra weight we are lugging > around is very hard on the joints in our bodies. I've been researching for a family, all of whom have herpes. I was quite alarmed to learn that it can cause a vast array of health problems over the years. We have to leave town now. If I don't remember to send you privately info about how it can cause alopecia, etc., by early next week, please send a reminder. It can disrupt immune systems. The term you refer to is " alopecia areata, " but there is another term for the alopecia that is caused by the herpes virus lurking in one's system. This is just one possibility, but it's worth investigating. Treatment for chronic conditions is low-dose Acyclovir, for several months. These children will be at the Mayo Clinic soon, and I'll update you if I learn anything new. Susie

Guest guest
Yeah, Kathy, and what did your doctor tell you about diabetes? Any of the info you find here? Garden variety arthritis is GREATLY helped by Glucosamine and Chrondroiton, and if you find that product and it includes some MSM, even better.
