Guest guest
Hi, I haven't posted much latly because I've been so tierd.Just for reminders,I've been on armour for about 4 months(3grains) and isocort for about 2 months.I finally went to endo and he didn't like the idea of isocort and last friday told me to stop cold turkey,I did with no symptoms at all.Monday I went for blood work and today he called me.He said I have no adrenal activaty at all,And that he called the drug store and got me cortef. The thing is, he only wants me to take it if I get sick, hurt or extreme stress. What does he think that phone call did? What is going on? He said he thinks the isocort shut down my adrenals,is that possible? Need some help.Any advice would be helpful. Thanks Debbie

Have you had ;abs done to confirm adrenal fatigue? If you do please post them. Why did you start Isocort? Hi, Debbie, If it were me, I would call and have a conversation with the doc & get the numbers, including ranges. I hate to tell you, but if it is true that you have no adrenal function, then this doc doesn't know what he's doing. We can only live without cortisol for 24-48 hours, so he should have put you on HC immediately. Now, I don't recall how long you were off Isocort before testing, which may be what the REAL problem is, so don't necessarily be alarmed...except by the possible ineptitude of your doctor! I don't know that I'd be worrying about the thyroid right now either. It's possible that your problem is adrenal rather than thyroid, or it's possible that it's both - they often ride together. But first things first...most critical issue to address are the adrenals. Have you had your sex hormones tested? How's your progesterone? Low progesterone can factor into the low cortisol equation too, since progesterone is a precursor to cortisol. Same goes for thyroid...if your progesterone is low & you're " estrogen dominant " ...estrogen binds thyroid hormone, which means less available for your body to use. I have low progesterone, and was told on another forum by very knowledgeable practitioner that he doubts I can get my thyroid or adrenals balanced unless my sex hormones are balanced. So, you might consider getting these tested as well. All of which can be accomplished with the Canary Club saliva test. Val can advise you on the specifics of how long you need to be off of Isocort/HC to get an accurate reading. If you REALLY have no adrenal activity, it wouldn't be wise to go of HC, and perhaps she can advise you about how to test in that case as well. Best of luck to you! Guest guest
Hi, I got the number of a new doc that sounds like a dream come true.I'm going to call first thing monday morning and see how soon I can get in. In the mean time I now have hydrocortisone and I'm going to use it, 5mgs.4 times a day.It has 3 refills and only says " take as directed by doctor " so I'm going to refill as soon as I think I can without the drug store getting leary.I'm also going to see the idiot that did this to me,( and how stupid am I for listening ) and get my blood work from him so I can see it for my self!Oh by the way I was off isocort 2 1/2 day when he did the blood work. Thanks for any other advice. Guest guest
> Can you > believe he is on a top doc list Yes, I can believe it, unfortunately. I've had several bad experiences myself with so-called top docs. It's a list of drs recommended by patients, so if they have a good experience, the refer the dr. Doesn't mean they're any good at all. Guest guest
> > > http://www.labtestsonline.org/ THANKS FOR THIS! > ....in which they skim the damn thing and tell you there's nothing wrong with you! Right...and I often wonder...is this what they get paid $200 an hour for - being unprepared for my visit?!!! Too bad the rest of us don't get paid that well for doing a crappy job!
