Guest guest
Hi, I haven't posted much latly because I've been so tierd.Just for reminders,I've been on armour for about 4 months(3grains) and isocort for about 2 months.I finally went to endo and he didn't like the idea of isocort and last friday told me to stop cold turkey,I did with no symptoms at all.Monday I went for blood work and today he called me.He said I have no adrenal activaty at all,And that he called the drug store and got me cortef. The thing is, he only wants me to take it if I get sick, hurt or extreme stress. What does he think that phone call did? What is going on? He said he thinks the isocort shut down my adrenals,is that possible? Need some help.Any advice would be helpful. Thanks Debbie
Guest guest
You'd have to be off the meds for at least 2 weeks for a test to be accurate. Any endo should know that. Besides the fact that it's dangerous to just stop adrenal medication cold turkey, it should be tapered off. If it were me, I'd be looking for a new doc pronto. Guest guest
Hi Val, I wasn't tested but had all the symptoms.I've been taking 8pellets for about 2 1/2 months.I thought this was to give glands a rest not shut them down.He did 3 blood draws with a shot in between the first and second draw. The lab called him to tell him I had no adrenal activity. Will they kick back in?Right now he gave me hydrocortisone for emergencies but nothing on a daily basis.I'm just riding it out I don't know what to do.LOL Debbie In NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS , wrote: > > >>He said he thinks the isocort shut down my > adrenals,is that possible?<< > > I suppose oif you took about 20-30 of them a day it si possible. Guest guest
I sincerely doubt that Isocort shut your adrenals down. It is MORE likely they were barely functional to begin with. Believe me if they were NON functional you would not be alive right now. You would be having to take HC at least 30-40MG a day. Can you post the results of the ACTH stim test you just described? -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
He called me late on wednsday so I haven't seen the results myself, he just said I have no adrenal activity at all.He gave me hydrocortisone for emergencies, so I did take 10mgs. yesterday and 5 so far today. I'm going to call him and ask if its OK to take 20 mgs. a day.I hope he'll go along I don't like this and I don't feel to good.Hypo symptoms coming back.He said he wonders if I'm hypo at all or if it just adrenal. He said my THS is a little low(LOL) but my frees are good.So I don't know what to think,I'm taking 3 grains of armour if I wasn't hypo I would think my frees would be way to high. Guest guest
I would ask to get the NUMBERS on your lab results. If your adrenals were dead wiht no HC so would you be. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Guest guest
Also, the way to prevent this kind of thing from happening to you again is to get as much education as you can about your condition. That way no doctor will ever be able to give you bad advice based on his own ignorance that could leave you sicker, or worse. Also, always ask for copies of all your labwork. You have a right to it by law, and the doctor shouldn't even ask " why do you want it? " . He should say " Sure! I'll send it right out to you. " No questions asked. If he doesn't say that, it should be a reg flag for you that this might not be the doctor you are looking for. " Your frees are good " means nothing. You need to know the numbers and the ranges. Doctors will tell you that " your frees look good " even when you have have midrange to bottom-of-range T3 and midrange to top-of-range T4, which is actually indicative of subclinical hypothyroidism, which many doctors do not acknowledge even exists. So it's important to get the lab results yourself. These are very good books to read if you haven't already: 1. " Chronic Fatigue Unmasked 2000 " by Dr. Poesnecker 2. " Safe Uses of Cortisol " by Dr. Jeffries 3. " Adrenal Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome " by Dr. Also read these websites: http://www.chronicfatigue.org/ http://www.adrenalfatigue.org/index.php > --- debbie wrote: > > > He called me late on wednsday so I haven't seen > the > > results myself, he > > just said I have no adrenal activity at all.He > gave > > me hydrocortisone > > for emergencies, so I did take 10mgs. yesterday > and > > 5 so far today. Guest guest
> > Also, the way to prevent this kind of thing from > happening to you again is to get as much education as > you can about your condition. > Bravo, ! I couldn't have said it more succinctly! One thing I'll add... Once you do all that has said, you will feel so much better knowing that you have an incredible bull$h!t meter, based on the facts that you have learned that your doctor did not take the time to do him/herself. However, from this point on, it will become very difficult to find at competent doctor for two reasons: 1) Most won't know as much as you have learned about your condition, even though, as they will happily & frequently tell you, you haven't gone to medical school. They may also tell you that you're looking at the information in a vacuum. (I've been told this.) Well, let me assure you that looking at things in a vacuum, and perhaps getting some of it wrong is FAR better than not looking at it at all, as many doctors do! 2) Many doctors don't want an educated patient. It's just a damn inconvenience for them, because they may actually have to take their own time learning a little more and/or doing the same research that you have done. I do not mean to be discouraging. In fact, though it is a frustrating search (I'm searching still...), imagine how great it will be when you finally discover a good doctor who: 1) Appreciates a well-informed patient. 2) Appreciates your research - it says you care about your health & your life. 3) Does proper & thorough testing. 4) Knows how to properly interpret said testing. Best of luck to you, and I hope you're feeling better soon. Warmly,
Guest guest
> Can you > believe he is on a top doc list Yes, I can believe it, unfortunately. I've had several bad experiences myself with so-called top docs. It's a list of drs recommended by patients, so if they have a good experience, the refer the dr. Doesn't mean they're any good at all.
