Guest guest
Bangalore holds film festival on AIDS Maya Sharma: Watch story: Monday, May 22, 2006 (Bangalore): Bangalore's contribution to the Global Week of Awareness included a festival of films and documentaries dealing with the issue of HIV and AIDS. There was Phir Milenge, My Brother Nikhil, Ek Alag Mausam and Philadelphia - all in a bid to create greater awareness among the public and to help express the voice of the HIV positive. " A lot still needs to happen. A lot more information has to come but it is better than before. I've been HIV positive for 13 years and there has been change but it is not enough with so many more people contracting HIV/AIDS, " said a local. UN review meeting Governments and international agencies will be reviewing their progress in the fight against AIDS at a United Nations review meeting in New York from May 31. " The world leaders are meeting in New York next week to review the progress they have made since 2001 to mitigate the problem of HIV and AIDS. All of us working in the field know that progress has been made but the progress has been slow, " said Christy Abraham, National THEM Leader HIV/AIDS, Action Aid International India. This was also a chance for HIV positive people to come together and talk of their concerns. " There were no medicines earlier, now they have come but they are not available everywhere - only in four places in Karnataka. So if it is available everywhere it would be good. And if the government can do the tests it would be good, " said Kannada Shantha, HIV positive person. Something has been done in the battle against AIDS over the years, but certainly not enough. That is the message being conveyed during the Global Week of Action at the film festival in Bangalore and at events organised with the same motivation around the world. http://www.ndtv.com/template/template.asp? category=National & template=AIDS & slug=Bangalore+holds+film+festival+on +AIDS & id=88215 & callid=
