Hi,

I also have a question about something I want to have for dinner. I

want to have some fried fish tonight but I don't no if the meal

that's put on the fish will count as carbs. I'm of coarse going to

have 2 slices of bread which will be my 28 grams of carbs.

Yes, Otis, the meal put on the fish will count as carbs; also because the

fish will probably be fried in oil, it will delay the carbs from being

digested quickly and your quick acting insulin may put you into reacation

while later, the carbs will hit yu and you will have a high. Fried anything

is really not good for people who are diabetic(anyone else for that matter!)

Yes, Otis, the meal put on the fish will count as carbs; also because the

fish will probably be fried in oil, it will delay the carbs from being

digested quickly and your quick acting insulin may put you into reacation

while later, the carbs will hit yu and you will have a high. Fried anything

is really not good for people who are diabetic(anyone else for that matter!)

The chicken sounds good in the greens. There are no carbs in either the

ham or the chicken, so it won't matter that way.

Hi Otis.

be careful of fried foods and other sorts of foods that I'll explain. There is a

term called the pizza effect. What this means is the food is high in fat and

high in carbs. That is a dangerous mix. It is ok to have some fat, and high

carbs, but high fat and high carbs spells trouble. When you eat, for example

pizza, the fat in the dairy and cheese and sausage/pepperoni delays the

absorption of the carbs. So, in two hours, your stomach is still working on fat

and hasn't even gotten to the carbs yet and your humalog is peeking. So, you

pass out or become deadly low. Then after 2, or more hours of digesting the fat,

then the carbs kick in and you spike! This is called the pizza effect. There are

foods that should be avoided that are classified as having the pizza effect:

1. pizza

2. Chinese

3. ribs

and any other food you can think of high in fat and carbs. Some may not effect

you the way it does others so just test and be careful. For example, if you try

fish tonight, check your sugar 1 hour past taking the humalog, then two hours

just in case the pizza effect is going on and you can counter it by eating

glucose tablets. However, just recall, in about 3 hours past eating the " pizza

effect " meal, the carbs will kick in and crank your sugar.

I suggest to get baked fish since it has no breading and is straight meat and

seasoned great!

eat as much chicken/ham as you want it is low carb and will not spike you. Just

recall to eat at least 30 grams of quick acting carbs like a roll or slice of

bread. BTW also if the chicken is breaded that counts as some carbs too.

Oh I almost forgot... dinner sounds great! What time should I be over Terri?

You have gone too far this time.....

I can live with knowing that pizza is bad for me and I can limit my

consumption of it.

I can struggle and know that Chinese food is bad for me. I can overcome

the urge to go to a Chinese buffet and enjoy some really delicious

foods.

BUT! Tellime me that those pork ribs are bad is just simply too much for

any human being to handle...(LOL, LOL, LOL)

Actually, fish is one of the things which the microwave does good on.

Salmon, Haddock, Halibut and ?Flounder are very good cooked in the

microwave.

Using lemon squeezed from the real thing and lime juice really makes

them good and tastey.

The problem with baking some fish is that it tends to become dry.

Cooking it in a covered dish with a lemon sauce helps but I honestly

think it is better when cooked in the microwave.

do you cook the fish in there. Thanks.
