The Department of Health Education, National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro

Sciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore in collaboration with University of California,

San Francisco is conducting a study “AIDS stigma, Gender and Health Consequences

in India”.

The purpose of this study is to examine the nature, extent and context of AIDS

stigma and discrimination by gender at multiple levels among people coming into

contact with urban health care systems.

For the above study it invites applications from the desired candidates for the

following posts.

Post: Research Officers: 2 nos.

Responsibilities:

Participate in on-going training on research topic, methods and ethics.

Assist in development and translation of all study instruments into local

languages.

Ensure proper implementation of all study protocols and ethical standards.

Coordinate and conduct recruitment of research participants.

Ensure follow-up of participants

Conduct structured interviews with the positive people, family members, health

care workers, and members of the general population.

Document interviews.

Check interviews for completeness and consistency.

Assist in data entry and monitoring Protect and respect confidentiality and

dignity of participants;

Carry out any other duties as delegated by the Project

Director/Coordinator.

Interviewers will be required to travel to various project sites within

Bangalore city and environs.

Skills Required:

Must work well in a team setting, and be comfortable working with individuals

from varying socio-economic and religious backgrounds, and sexual orientation.

Fluency in Kannada, and Tamil required, and

Hindi/Urdu, Telugu and/or English desirable. Good communication and people

skills Computer skills: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,

Powerpoint and Access) and data analysis packages like

SPSS

Willing to adhere to research ethics Flexible to work after office hours if

necessary Good documentation skills Willing to travel in and around Bangalore

Qualification:

Candidate should hold a masters level degree in Social Work/

Psychology/Sociology Previous experience in field-based social science research

preferably in HIV related research.

Ability and experience in qualitative research will be an asset.

Proficiency in speaking Kannada, English, and Tamil, ability to speak Telugu and

Urdu will be an asset. Preference will be given to those with multiple language

skills.
