Guest guest
THE GLOBAL WEEK OF ACTION (GWA): 20TH TO 26TH MAY 2006 National Governments and international agencies are meeting in New York reviewing the progress they have made in the fight against AIDS since 2001. They will be presenting their achievements at the United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) R eview Meet, in New York from 31st May to 2nd June. HIV and AIDS campaigners know how little has been achieved in the fight against AIDS and how unrealistic the new target for 2010 is. In India, for example: Over 5.2 million People are Living with HIV and AIDS -Yet there is Apathy and Denial! 72, 000 people got HIV in just one year of 2005- Yet they do not get Basic Health care! Highest infection rate is among the Youth aged 15 -24-Yet Sexual Health and HIV is not discussed with them! 2 Lakh Children are living with HIV & AIDS in India. No one knows the number of AIDS Orphans---- Do we care?! The GWA is to create more awareness among civil society, demand political commitment, draw media attention and launch a more sustained campaign for Universal Access to Treatment and Care for PLHA by 2010.
