Welcome home Lyssa. glad that you made it okay. I hope you kept your weight

  • 8 years later...

Marla,Keep your chin up. It sounds like they did an open procedure. I heard about a few having 's issues from that. I had the da Vinci and was out the afternoon of the second day. Had an infection due to the catheter losing pressure and slipping. Still working that issue out. I gutted out the 2 hour drive home (wife hit every other bump) and only took 1 pain pill after I got home.Wise decision to keep track of things at the hospital. I was charged for several things not used and I called them to task on it. Some of the pain is nerve repair, I occasionally get a stabbing pain at the root of the penis and I about jump out of my skin when it happens.Sorry for the problems. Praying for you both.Steve S in ArkansasTo: ProstateCancerSupport Sent: Thursday, January 15, 2009 10:03:45 PMSubject: HOME

is home now. Got home at 1pm yesterday. His pain is pretty bad

usually around 6-9/10. They have only given Tylenol #3, Toradol and

Dettol. He has trouble getting comfortable and even showering. I

know it is all part of the surgery but, his pain is never below a 6.

Then we noticed that he has a bacterial rash on both thighs. This he

got because he was in bed for 4 days with no showering. Just a bowl

of water and soap. He was sweating cause the heater was stuck on, and

his testicles were badly swollen. The rash is right where his

testicles touch his legs. So now he has Lamisil cream. I was him

with a sterile cloth and sterile water 3-4 times a day. He complained

about an itch and burning at the hospitals but, the nurses just said

it was normal and never looked.

I have a book that I keep track of his antibiotic meds, pain med

intake/times, showers, liquid Intake and his output and pain levels.

I do this incase something happens then it is all recorded.

What I am wondering is what is the normal urinary output? His is only

500ml during the day. Even with drinking 8 or more glasses of water

or juice. He was doing more at the hospital with the IV out.

My other question is he is in extreme pain on his right side of his

groin. Did any other men have extreme pain on one side more then the

other? He did have pain problems prior to the surgery, now he says it

is 40 times more.

But all in all, he is doing OK. In bed by 2pm because as he would say

"I am done". But on the couch the rest of the time. He is getting

more sleep now at night. The hospital was loud and everytime he would

fall asleep, 1/2 later the nurses would wake him, or his roomy would

bang around, or nurses would get noisy.

Buy the way, wanted to say that one of the side effects after

the surgery is bruising and swelling of the testicles, he wished

someone would have said that. It was kinda a shock for him. Kinda an

important thing to mention. It should be written somewhere.

Will chat again,

Marla &
