Good Morning,

It was a long night for me between my Migraines and RA. My feet and

hands were swollen last night. Does that happen a lot with RA? I am

sore and tired today. Exhaustion has been my friend lately. My

Rheumy put me on Plaquenil last week, does anyone know how long it

takes for it to start working? Thank goodness I have Ultram for my

pain. I wouldn't have made it thru the night otherwise. Hope

everyone is having a painfree day!

Hugs,

S.

lol Lynn, I think most of us do something too soon and " pay for it " with a

painful reminder. Not stupid, just normal.

My PT told me some stories of some of things that his patients have done,

made me laugh but also then I knew it is normal to push those TJR. In my

case, I felt so much better afterwards that I was always doing those should

not do that yet stuff. Also think that unless you do push a little bit you

are not going to recovery as fast. The problem with me was finding that

little bit and the you have done it again too far.

Hope your day isn't as painful.

Thanks Gloris.

I called my surgeon's office and his nurse said .... " you haven't

damaged anything but the healing from what you just did will take a

few days...we TOLD you! " :o). Of course they did.

Lynn

I'll go take another tylonol and lick my hurt pride.

Oh by the way, I have had trouble with the coumodon: it made my blood

TOO thin because I eat a lot of greens and nuts. The office was

worried about my high count but we cut out the cou. for a couple of

days and now it's back to normal.

Also I'm down to one Ted stocking only, on my operated leg. Those

things are uncomfortable arent they?

And I'm looking suspiciously at my right knee now. Heck once you

start you may as well replace all worn parts and live (almost) like a

25 year old (active one that is).

Don't be too fast in getting those replacements. The next one seems to

appear quickly lol. I had both knee replaced at the same time and was very

glad to have it done, out of the way and to get on with life. But now of

course all the other aches and pains are starting to appear.

Oh no, that's not supposed to happen. You suppose the more serious ones

mask the lesser ones? Sigh.

Sadly it sure seems that way. My mind focused on my knees but not the other

areas. Then only I started getting better noticed the " other parts " . But

it reminded me I'm not 20 something and do need to watch more closely my

choice of activites. Not ready for the rocking chair yet but sure need to

stop lifting the heavy weight items.

Are you on Coumadin all the time, or was it prescribed for the surgery?

For sure don't try to step up with the operated leg too soon in your

recovery. I am having my first really painful day (and last night was

painful) because of doing that. Very stupid.

What kind of PT are you doing for the stairs? For me they had me do squats

to get in shape for stairs. About 10 weeks out from bi-lateral knees was

at a husband's co-workers house had to do a small set of stairs into their

basement with no hand rail - panic time but thanks to the PT could do it.

Are your quadriceps strong, or are they shrunken from disuse, prednisone, or

something else? I think your quads what pull you up stairs, and also what

keep you from falling down stairs, not your knee.

Your quadripceps is a four-part muscle which makes up your thigh muscle -

yes, above the knee.

Here's an image I found on Google - there are many more:

This muscle is what really carries our body weight up and down stairs - and

the knee must also work, too - but the knee is supported by the quad.

Lynn, no you're not stupid. We all do it. I still get days when I feel like

I've been run over by a truck. Not so much in the hip, but my leg muscles and

my back. I don't realize I'm overdoing it, until after I've already overDONE

it! LOL! Still struggling to get off this latest plateau. <sigh>

Gloria, you expressed perfectly the problem we have: finding the fine line

between pushing just enough, and pushing too much. I've tried to explain that

to hubby, but he doesn't seem to be getting it. Now, if I can just find that

fine line for myself... :)
