Guest guest
Well said last night was HELL. His catherter was the only pain he was having. It was spasaming all night. They eventually were flushing and giving him spasim meds for it but he did not get any sleep. He has an epideral. So no pain in the incision at all just in his bladder and where the catheter is in him. He said to tell all you guys that are going for the surgery to have the epideral because it takes 98 to 100% of the surgical pain away. He has a drain that will be coming out the day he is released which will be Tuesday or Wednesday. He is off his oxygen today and up and walking a bit. Already wanting to come home and acting like his normal self a bit more. But getting no sleep with the nurses always bothering him or poking at him. So he says he is pushing to be home Tuesday. Dr said surgery went well with no complications. Only lost 200cc of blood and the lymphnoides looked clear of cancer. So it was contained to the Prostate. Dr then said " I did as best as I could with the nerve sparing. We will not know until a few weeks after the catheter is out how everything works. But he will be started on Viagra or Cialis after the catheter is removed. " Last night/day was hell for me as well. had Lung cancer surgery 18 years ago and the surgery brought back all those memories and I cried alot when I got to my friends for the night. But today he looked and was acting more himself so I am better. Still a bit shaken. And even once in a while I think to myself " maybe this was all wrong? " I guess a bit of guilt because I know if was single he would never have gone for the surgery. He did it more for his family and because of his family then for himself. But today he said he also did it cause he knows in the back of his mind it was best. Because the dr said within 10 years it would be life threatening. (The dr has 30 years + expierence with Prostate cancer). And said he was not willing to chance it. Anyways day 2 is tomorrow and things already look better for 's post op recovery. When he gets home I will fill you all in with the rest. Thanks for all the " best wishes and prayers " Marla &
Guest guest
Isn't it amazing they get you up and walking the next day after major surgery like this? Sounds like he's being attended to well in the hospital at any rate. Sorry to hear about the catheter problems, I actually got pretty comfortable with mine, interesting device, glad to see it go though. And really good to hear the cancer was confined to the gland, that's a good indication of (hopefully) being cured.
Guest guest
! Been There Done That. You are on the right track. The sooner you get moving the better. I don't blame you home beats the Hosp any day, plus the food is better. Never did like spinach souffle, or unseasoned cauliflower. I also went through the spasms with the catheter soon that will be over. My best wishes to you and your lovely wife Big

Guest guest
Marla and ,My wife always said that when I was complaining, I was normal. Keep your chin up. If the catheter starts to slip (he will know if it is), get right back and have it "pumped up" a bit. I did not and had some nerve damage as a result. It is almost where it should have been 3 months ago. Check on the penile rehab and see if your insurance company pays for a month's supply of the Cialis or Viagra. Most only cover 5-8 pills per month. I am STILL fighting for the 5 mg dose of Cialis for a daily regamin. They say that it is a "lifestyle" drug and cannot be used for rehab. I am in round 3 of appeals and will fight until they recognize the need of rehab after prostate surgery.Best of luck. We are praying for you.Steve S in ArkansasTo: ProstateCancerSupport Sent: Saturday, January 10, 2009 11:26:58 PMSubject: 1st day/night after surgery Well said last night was HELL.
