Stay away from buzzwords like " low-carbing, " see if you can impress your

doctor with your blood test results, and maybe ask the doctor her views

about diet, rather than stating your own. If your results are good, your

doctor will probably be tickled, no matter how you go about it. I can

imagine that it would be sad and frustrating to be in the medical profession

and watch so many diabetics fail. If asked, you can call it " carb-counting "

or something like that.

So, I need suggestions on how to handle this

first appointment.

Jacky,

My circumstances are somewhat different than yours and my primary Doc and I

don't get along well. His inaccurate diagnosis damn near killed me last Spring

and I've had other problems with him as well, BUT I pretty much have to stick

with him for insurance reasons etc. I plan to tell him exactly what I'm doing

when I next see him. My Endo is a very nice person, but rather stuck in the

" traditional " dietary mode. I see her May 7 and hope to be able to show her

some entirely different results. I don't even plan on ever seeing the " diabetic

educator " or nutritionist again as I know that would be nothing but a waste of

time. Should it happen that I am required to by my insurance company I will

also be completely truthful with them, and then go about my business the way I'm

doing now.

Hi, Jacky...have you been keeping good records of what you ate? Because with

your lowcarb WOE, you can present her with the results of that...your A1C at

diagnosis - whatever it was - and your next one after lowcarbing. If that

doesn't convince her...don't know what will. Do it diplomatically, of

course, smile. Vicki

Hello willabee@...,

In reference to your comment:

ð She asked me if I tested 4 times a day, I answered,

ð closer to 6,  her reply was music to my ears.... " Are

ð you obsessive about this?  because I like my diabetics

ð to be obsessive about this disease, they are better

ð patients and live a long time with few of the typical

ð complications " .

WHoooohoooo I'm glad for you Jacky

That's great, Jacky. She sounds like a wonderful doctor, and a good

player on your diabetes team!

Jacky, congratulations on finding a wonderful doc! You're really lucky...as I

know you appreciate after hearing some of the horror stories about docs on

this list. You're going to be Just Fine! Vicki
