Guest guest
What happens if you read the material aloud? You would be 'hearing' what you said. Just curious. ========= I may not have gotten all the facts, but at approximately 4/12/02 9:18 PM I believe Art Mc is rumored to have said: >To cut to the chase one of the loss areas is my inability to read and >retain anything of any length unless it is read aloud to me. >

That's exactly what I said. As to the " just curious " question: yes, if I were to read a novel out loud to myself, my retention capacity would be enhanced, but reading aloud to oneself is very distracting in itself and extremely slow. Also irritating to those around you. That is what I do with short emails however. Your suggestion or question sounds good on the surface and I do appreciate it, but it is not at all practical for me. Just for the heck of it sit down, pick up a book, and try reading 100 pages out loud to yourself sometime. The first few pages go all right, but you'll find that it becomes a real PITA very quickly:-) Art
Guest guest
The ADA has I think about 150 to 200 carbs a day and Atkins starts with 20 carbs a day and you work up, but most people can't lose or keep their blood sugar down eating much more than 20 to 50. Bernstein recommends 30 a day for all diabetics. Some people do well on the ADA, but for me time ran out and my blood sugar just got higher and higher and the meds were added until the side effects kicked in and the meds quit working and that's when I cut the carbs. Any diet you go on and lose weight, it you just turn around and start eating the old way again you will gain it back. The sad staticts that I saw on TV were that 80% of all people that lose more than 80 pounds gain in back in 5 years. ><< Deb, I am just like you. I have to agree with Bernstein here...just speaking for myself...I have found 30 grams a day to be my limit...if I go much over that my bg starts jumping. A trick I've been using here is I plan on about 20 grams and then I figure the other 10 will be taken up by those little grams and part grams here and there I miss counting...it seems to work for me. The highest my bg has been jumping lately is round about the 115 to 123 mark and that is only when I eat breakfast too late from sleeping in and my morning rise kicks in. The rest of the day I'm down between mid 80's to 100. Deb

My sis has spent so much money and been on every single diet there is. She is loosing weight right now on her own and she is scaring me cause everytime she does that she has cancer. I just hope she is ok. Anyway, I think the only real way is to have a sensible eating plan and to change your lifestyle. I just wish I could do that.
