Guest guest
Deb, I am just like you. So I follow Atkins, eat 20 carbs a day and when I stick to it I lose. Lost 3 pounds this week and in heavy ketosis. But, when I started last year on Atkins, I lost right off the bat as soon as I go off all the meds. Just a suggestion. There is a difference in keeping you diabetes under good control and weight loss, which Atkins specializes in, even though one usually goes with the other. If I just wanted to control my blood sugarI probaly could add some carbs, but to lose weight and be in ketosis, I have to cut it to the bone. If you want to know what I ate yesterday, let me know. Phyllis N Now...regarding weight loss I have a question...I have been on LC (appx 30 >grams carbs) for exactly 38 days. My BG and BP have totally stabilized and >I >was able to stop the Glucophage XR I was taking, and my energy level is >much >better then it had been when I had high bg readings....but I am not >experiencing any real weight loss. I was just wondering what is the difference? My friend Barb went on the Atkins type diet and she lost a ton of weight and then she got tired of it and gained back a ton and a half? Guest guest
Hello moseart@..., In reference to your comment: ð BTW, the way I handle email is to have it set up by ð category through message rules and then read one ð category, one email at a time. As I read each email I ð decide which I want to respond to as I read it. Those ð that I want to respond to go into a separate file ð immediately. When I have gone through each category ð I go back to the separate file and read those questions ð into a tape recorder and play the message back to ð myself so that I hear it and retain it. I then write the ð response and send it off. Guest guest
The terms are benign dietary ketosis >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thanks Susie. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> But dietary ketosis is a different animal. " Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution " by Atkins discusses it at length, as do other books. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Yes, I'm sure that it does. I'd love to read it as well as Bernstein and the others that are constantly mentioned here, but I am unable to do so. I've mentioned the " tough time " that I had last Spring here a couple of times and went into some detail on one occasion, but have not mentioned one of permanent effects that resulted from this period of my life. Needless to say that I don't remember it, but when my wife woke and found me not breathing, called the ambulance, the time between the call and the paramedics, police and fire, successful attempt to revive me etc. is unknown. I also went down two more times for short periods of time. At some point, probably between the time prior to my wife's awareness of my condition and the paramedics getting me breathing again I experienced ischemic encepolopathy for an unknown period of time and was apparently quite lucky that the brain damage was not worse than it was. To cut to the chase one of the loss areas is my inability to read and retain anything of any length unless it is read aloud to me. I have always been a voracious reader and now must resort to Books on Tape, movies, CD's etc. . . .there is some sort of disconnect between visual only reading and short term memory. The therapist that I saw three times per week for three months for memory compensation techniques was the person who diagnosed this when trying to figure out why I could not retain a question from a test long enough to answer it unless she read it to me. To cut to the chase:-). . .I can't read with any retention anymore and will not be able to, my balance is poor, but has improved quite a bit with physical therapy and conditioning, and short term memory is moderately to severely damaged and I am somewhat aphasic verbally. This seems to vary from day to day though, however. The Brain is a " funny organ " and although great strides have been made over the years it is still not fully understood. BTW, the way I handle email is to have it set up by category through message rules and then read one category, one email at a time. I then write the response and send it off. The therapist came up with this routine and it works well for me albeit a bit slow. The good news is that all other facets of my memory are normal:-) I hope this explains some of my repetitious questions to you:-) Art

Your recovery is amazing. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Thanks Carol, but I'm not really recovered and won't be, but (with a lot of help from therapists and family) I've learned to compensate pretty well I think. There are however, little things that I still screw up. For example, a few minutes ago I was in the kitchen and my wife was downstairs doing whatever and she asked me to bring her down some Orange colored cleaning stuff and a mop. When I got down there she smiled and asked me what she was supposed to do with the broom <G>. The mop was still upstairs. . . I'm doing OK though and one heck of a lot better than the Docs told my family I would ever be. Art
