However, I remember reading it, either in the insert or the pdr that it is usually taken by people who have a tolerance to narcotics. Guest guest Posted June 14, 2007 Report Share Posted June 14, 2007 I have read so many of your messages and gain much support in addition to sending a lot of prayers to those who are having trouble. My doctor, yesterday, mentioned a pain patch. He also mentioned that I would not be able to drive. Has anyone ever used a pain patch? I don't know what kind of medication, etc. because we are going to discuss that next week when I see him but I would like to be prepared before then so I can ask questions. Guest guest Posted June 14, 2007 Report Share Posted June 14, 2007 If your doctor is talking about the fentanyl patch it is a good pain relief. It comes in 25,50 and 100 micrograms and you change out after 48 to 72 hours. Depends on your doctor. It is a pretty strong opiod that keeps your pain evened out. No up and down waiting on a pill to kick in. The only problem I had was keeping it on. I had to put tape over it. I also have hyperhidrosis and it just didn't want to stick. If that is it you can look it up under meds and read about it. I didn't have any problem driving though. Hope this helps. I found a couple that I really like..one is the Tiger Balm patches...it sees to help my muscle cramps I have all the time in my right knee. The other is the heat patch Shaq advertises on TV. It comes with a wrap you put the patch in and it works pretty well for me so far!!! I mainly need the heat on my legs all the time. They think I'm nuts at our aparment complex...as when I walk the dogs, I have sweat pants on most of the time...and it's in the mid 90's here and extremely humid also. But...the heat keeps my legs feeling good...so I don't really care what everyone thinks. I was having problems getting my pain under control when Vioxx was pulled from the market. Finally after trying Vicadin, which made me sick to my stomach and also " stoned " for lack of better word, I was put on Fentanyl and it sure works for me.
