I'm a type 2, newly dx't and I'm hooked on diet coke - more

recently the new lemon flavor.

My wife did buy a box of Splenda and it's good stuff, but the only thing I ever

used Sugar on was cereal and at this point, I'm OFF cereal:-). We've looked all

over for the Splenda sodas and can't find them here in the Twin Cities.

Several members here have mentioned very high consumption of colas. Keep in

mind that caffeine is a " drug " that affects our hormonal system, etc. Many

people find that the caffeine in, say, more than one cup of coffee or coke

per day can significantly increase blood sugar levels, followed by reactive

lows -- i.e., can contribute to an exaggerated roller coaster pattern.

An excellent benefit of these groups is that we can get an idea of what is

" normal. " In general, type 2's suffer symptoms for many years before being

diagnosed. But how do we know they are diabetes symptoms?? You don't hear

people on elevators asking, " So, Susie, how often do you pee? "

Something you'll hear all the time is that people didn't realize their

thirst was unusual ... they just thought water " tasted really good! " Art, it

sounds like you're drinking 4.5 - 6 quarts of soda daily. That's a bunch,

kiddo ...

Caffeine gives me potentially fatal arrhythmias. Something to think about.

Susie,

It is a bunch, but I feel like it's better than snacking constantly like I

used to do.

I drink a pretty large pot of coffee, washed down with a couple/three diet

cokes by 8 a.m. every day. I'm beginning to think that maybe that isn't

such a hot idea:-).

Art if you want to get off the caffeine, just start with 1/2 regular and 1/2

decaf (coke and coffee) then keep reducing it. Pretty soon you won't tell

the difference. This is what I did after haveing an irregular heart beat

years ago.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Thanks Phyllis:-) But until someone convinces me that drinking the caffeine

all day and evening is worse for me than eating all day and evening, I'll

stick with the caffeine.

Checked it twice yesterday: before and after workout. . .before was 130/78

and after was 102/62. Seems to have decreased some since I've changed my

ways:-).
