Hello roger_holmen@...,

In reference to your comment:

Thanks ... oh yeah i run into those folks who never do a finger stick,

who always eat what they want, take 3 diabetes pills (no clue as to name)

and get blood work from the dr once a year, have NO clue what is drawn let

alone what the results are....

say they HAVE to eat cuz their sugar is low.... lol good excuse, unless on

certain meds, you don't have hypo's unless you are hypoglycemic not diabetic.

My dr adores me, but also gets frustrated, cuz i walk in, say i want this and

this and this done, i bring my readings in with me, ask for certain tests.

etc.

LOL this time i'm going in the end of the month, telling her i want meds to

cause menopause, cuz i need it, i have 15 reasons why i need the cycle

stopped NOW.... all related to diabetes and wt issues, and mobility issues.

Thank you for setting me straight. In re-reading that post I

sent, I realize that I may have made a sweeping

generalization that doesn't apply to many such as yourself.

You are obviously in good control of your bg's as shown by

all the results you quoted, and I cannot quibble with your

choice to have that piece of cake because you know exactly

what it will do to your bg's, and it is a thoughtful,

intelligent decision.

Yes, there is some glycation when you head up to the 170

range, but since you are maintaining low levels most of the

time, there is evidence that it will reverse in about 24

hours. Not so if the bg levels remain high and that is where

most people get into problems, and it will show in their

HbA1c.

I was referring to those (and I personally know several)

that eat as much of whatever they want, say they are doing

fine (or their Dr tells them that), and when pressed will

have bg's on a roller-coaster to quite high and low levels,

a high average bg, and HbA1c's higher than " normal " . I know

that part of this is the acceptance by many Drs of mediocre

goals for bg & HbA1c and a general patient lack of education

about this disease. Fortunately, IMHO, those on this list

(and LC-D) are getting more of the whole story from many who

are actually living with this 800 lb gorilla and controlling

it (such as yourself).

Many thanks to everyone who shared their input. I'm planning to ask my aunt

how often she tests, and share some info with her. While she could very well

have things under control, there's a good chance she has no idea what that

really means or could be in denial. As a diabetic, I know it helps to have

someone keep you in check once in a while, and I don't think anyone's doing

that for her. Thanks again for all of the input!
