I finally got a call from one of my doctor's nurses. I told her about the

blood sugar readings and how they are not going down. She said she didn't

think the readings were that bad but I told her that I didn't agree with her

and that the medication is not helping them to go down. I told her that the

readings in the morning have been in the 160's and even higher and that's

not how there supposed to be. I also told her that since they were running

that high that I was not feeling well. She asked whether I'd been eating

things that I wasn't supposed to be eating and I told her no. I've been

eating the way I've been eating since I was there the last time. but they

are still too high. I don't know why but they still have me taking Actos

along with the Metformen. I've not taken that for months now. They still

have that noted on my chart. I let her know that someone needs to get their

charts better organized. Anyway, she's going to talk to Dr. Shockley and

let me know what he wants me to do. More than likely, he will adjust the

medicine or he'll add another pill. Will let you know when I hear back.

and say good job. It is not a good job. A normal blood sugar is 80. That level

is *perfectly* attainable before a meal via carb counting.

How sad that so many doctors have no clue about carb counting. Probably because

they just have enough information to be dangerous and are under educated as to

current treatment. They know medication, however, they do not know how to carb

count and *use* that medication to keep pre meal 80 and 2 hour post meals 120 or

less. Sad really. I.E toss a patient on some medication and get them at an a1c

of 6.0 and that is what they think is ok?

blood sugar readings go over 170 then I'm to let them know. I tried

explaining to her that's it's been over that for the last several days and

that it isn't going down. According to the lab results that they just did

when I was there last week the blood sugars were just fine and there wer a

few numbers that wer even better than his. So the bottom line is that as

of now I'm still to take what I've been taking. I guess the doctor doesn't

want to add or change anything else because he's afraid of hypoglycemia. I

really am frustrated right now. Also, the other thing that she brought up

was whether my machine is accurate. I have been wondering that myself. I

did a quality test control on it Sunday morning and it came back okay

although the first few times when I tried it it kept saying that it was out

of range. So, I'm still not sure if it is giving me accurate readings. I

don't know what to do. I wish I could talk to the doctor myself instead of

going through his nurses. I'm going to test myself after finishing this

post and see what the reading is now and will let you know. Let me know if

Since your doctor does not wish to take a telephone call from you or even

call you back himself on a telephone, I would recommend writing him a letter

with a copy of the entire message thread below. In the letter request that

he call you immediately and to also place the letter into your medical file.

I don't know how medical services work where you live, but here in Georgia,

if my doctor did not return my call personally within 24 hours, I would

request to be transferred to another doctor or fire the one I have and get

another. I have learned when dealing with a lawyer to make an agreement

with them up front, when I first see them. The agreement is if you do not

return my telephone call within 24 hours, you are fired. I do not feel bad

about such an agreement with a lawyer, since they charge for every thing,

even a telephone call, so I do not fell bad at all about making this

requirement with them. If they want my money, they will call me back soon.

I hope it doesn't get to this state of affairs with doctors, but I fear we

are headed in that direction.

with them up front, when I first see them. The agreement is if you do not

return my telephone call within 24 hours, you are fired. I do not feel bad

about such an agreement with a lawyer, since they charge for every thing,

even a telephone call, so I do not fell bad at all about making this

requirement with them. If they want my money, they will call me back soon.

I hope it doesn't get to this state of affairs with doctors, but I fear we

are headed in that direction.

A Call From the Doctor's nurse

I finally got a call from one of my doctor's nurses. I told her about the

blood sugar readings and how they are not going down. She said she didn't

think the readings were that bad but I told her that I didn't agree with

her

and that the medication is not helping them to go down. I told her that

the

readings in the morning have been in the 160's and even higher and that's

not how there supposed to be. I also told her that since they were

running

that high that I was not feeling well. She asked whether I'd been eating

things that I wasn't supposed to be eating and I told her no. I've been

eating the way I've been eating since I was there the last time. but they

are still too high. I don't know why but they still have me taking Actos

along with the Metformen. I've not taken that for months now. They still

have that noted on my chart. I let her know that someone needs to get

their

charts better organized. Anyway, she's going to talk to Dr. Shockley and

let me know what he wants me to do. More than likely, he will adjust the

medicine or he'll add another pill. Will let you know when I hear back.

I also asked for something for these damn hot flashes.

machine and I no it's not accurate because I use another machine

which is very small. I forgot the name of it but when I check my

sugar I use both of them at the same time just to see what I come up

came back as 79 and the voicemate came back as 99. I no that the

smaller one was accurate because it only use a small amount of blood

Your doctor is being cautious because your readings last week were fine. Do a

quality control check on the meter to make certain it is ok again. What

brand/model of a meter do you use? Do you have another meter around or do you

have a friend that has one you can test on just to see what your sugar is at on

a different meter? This way, if it is the same, then you can pretty much confirm

that yours is correct.

I haven't heard anyone else mention something about the accuracy of meters.

My doctor always has me take my meter with me when I get lab work. They even

pipette a drop of blood they have taken and put it on the strip so that

there is a reading on my meter at the time they take the blood. then the

doctor checks both readings when the lab work comes in to see how close the

meter is to being right.

Any machine has a variance of 10%. Now, if one is on the low end and the

other on the high end that difference would, unfortunately, be about

correct.

Which one agrees with what your doctor's meter says? Cy, the Ancient
