Hi all--I haven't visited this group for awhile; things have gone from

bad to really bad in the last few months. A brief overview of my

problems: in Oct. 2000, I had the misfortune to have a botched up

hystereosocpic d & c, where the doctor attempted to remove a 5 cm

fibroid with a resectoscope, and then decided to just leave it, when

he feared perforation. I was under the impression I was just going to

have a d & c to rule out cancer (I had been spotting between periods, at

age 52) and maybe remove any small polyps (he found 2) and small

fibroids easily got to.

I had 2 bouts of fever and severe pain one month and two months

post surgery; doctor blew it off, told me to see internist. I knew my

uterus was blocked, but no one would believe me. Saw another doctor

end of Dec.--he found my uterus blocked, tried to open in office, but

it didn't stay open. All through Jan. 2001, I had hot flashes, then in

Feb. they ended. On March 1, I had a gallbladder ultrasound, and the

tech seemed shocked--told me my uterus was very enlarged, and asked

if I was pregnant! I took a preg. test, negative, of course. I had no

more fever for a couple months, then on St.Pat's day weekend, had

severe " period-like " pain. Saw original butcher doctor and he was

shocked that my uterus was 20 weeks in size, then informed me he was

going out of town for a week. He did order an ultrasound the next

day which showed blood in my tubes as well as blood and

indeterminate masses in my huge uterus. Saw the second doctor a week

later. Was bedridden, in severe pain all week. That doctor recommended

a complete hysterectomy with ovary removal, which I had done a week

later.

So now here I am, 3 weeks after a terrible hyst., big vertical

incision which is extremely painful, no uterus, no ovaries, just what

I had been trying to avoid for years. Just a word to the wise--be

careful your doctor isn't a " cowboy " who likes to experiment on you

with proceedures he isn't able to complete. I do partially blame

myself for my problems, as the original doctor did tell me that more

surgery was probably needed to finish removing that fibroid, but I was

so ticked off with him for tricking me that I didn't trust him to do

more surgery on me, and couldn't find any other doctor who would do

it, as I was the patient of the original doctor!!! I guess I was lucky

to find a cutter to do the hyst. Sheesh....
