Guest guest
Hi, That's true. I tried to get my diabetes nurse to put me on Lantus in the afternoon but she wanted to keep increasing the humilog. The reason it's like that is because I was messing up so much eating all the wrong things. Now it's time for me to take control. I'm also a heavy set guy so my insalen wasn't working that good. I use to be on novolog but that wouldn't work with me for nothing. They had to put me on a pill called macforman until my doctor thought that the macforman was bothering my liver. Guest guest
I still do not understand your medical service's decissions. Humalog or Novolog are insulins used to deal with boluses. You still need a basal type of insulin like Lantus or Humalin, not just Humalog. I don't care how stout you are. This is still what you need, since the short-acting insulin can be strongly affected by the long acting insulin dose. You will need to learn to balance the dose of both the short-acting insulin and the long-acting insulin. One affects the dose of the other. Re: Terri exam > Hi, > > That's true. Guest guest
If you are on insulin altogether, then you would not need any other oral diabetes medications. Guest guest
Harry, I think the reason they took him off of lantus, if understanding correctly, is he was not watching at all what he was eating. So, it was impossible to get him regulated. Rather than have two variables in the equaiton, they said pull the lantus and let the guy eat like the devil and dose massive amounts of humalog. Humalog should be out of the body in 3 or 4 hours but if you dose 74 units of H it will linger longer than 3 hours and into the next meal. Interesting approach. I don't think it will keep his a1c under 7 though grin. Regards, Re: Terri exam > Hi, > > That's true. Guest guest
This does not sound true any longer, since it looks like Otis has awakened to the realities of life now, and especially to the reality of taking charge in the management of diabetes. So get on with it Otis and stay in charge! Re: Terri exam > > > > Hi, > > > > That's true. Guest guest
Hi Otis. Keep watching the carbs man. If anyone needs to watch their bgs it is you since you have stroked once already. I am not certain what they may have told you for the stroke, but sometimes, that can be caused from being an undiagnosed type 2 diabetic. Guest guest
Otis, Sounds like you are lucky to be with us at all! Good for you for trying to keep the diabetes in control. It must be tricky with all other meds you are on. Re: Terri exam Hi , I use to be on 3 differnt types of diabetic pills at different times. I take other types of meds. I'm like a walk drug store. Guest guest
Hi, Well I just checked my sugar before dinner and it went back up. It was 183. I'm hoping that 1 pack of ramen noodels didn't do this. I also had a salad with fat free french dressing for lunch. I suppose the dressing could've played a part in my increase. Well I guess I will eliminate starchy food for a good while. I also did a control solution test with my machine and all I was getting is out of range. It was giving me numbers like 180 and 193. So I called the company that makes this meter and they said that they will send me some test strips and some new solution. I'm suppose to call them when I get them and we're going to run some test. I didn't get to test on my little machine because there wasn't anyone to read it out to me. I'm going to try to call my diabetic nurse tomorrow and see if she would put me on that lantis because I think that this to much fast acting insalin for me to be taking.
