Randy, The above is pretty accurate. He says he wants to lose weight, but he does have low self esteem and is in counselling. I know that sometimes when we change our actions, our thoughts follow (not always the other way around). When I had a bout with depression a few years ago, part of what my doctor wanted me to do was walk at least 30 minutes a day. While it was the last thing I wanted to do, after a few weeks I started liking it and I believe it did help. I also find on this WOE that I feel better mentally. I guess there is no way of getting someone to eat this way if they are against it. I did think that this would be good for him, since he loves meat (roast, ribs, anything). And he'd never be hungry. Thanks for your insight. It's probably more accurate than you realize. Dana

Guest guest
One easy solution would have you each cook for yourself. Although you can probably try and make a base that is shared. Low fat meat cooking can be done in a toaster oven. Just broil everything for him. You can either eat your meat that way too, or sauce it up. Cook low carb veggies or make a salad. You get to have butter and full fat dressing, he gets to have no butter and low fat dressing. You can make a starch for him, or let him make one himself. If you have found something that you believe in, stick with it. He has to really want to do whatever plan he is following. If he won't eat the veggies you cook, I'm sure he can find something in the kitchen that makes him happy. You aren't his mother and can't force him to eat his veggies. It certainly won't be as easy for you as if he were low carbing by your side, but you'll get by. My hubby has totally gone off the low carb wagon right now and I'm finding it more difficult. When he cooks dinner, he makes sure he's made something I can eat (thank goodness for frozen asparagus!) even if he's just cooking Kraft dinner for himself. I'm making meals low carb, but also cooking him up some rice or something to round out his plate. With a little consideration, we're coexisting in the kitchen just fine Kirstie

Guest guest
I've got a question....i'll try to make this short (as i have a tendency to be long winded! haha) and to the point! My dear hubby who is 6 ft and weighs 152 has just seen a nutritionist regarding high cholesterol (245), i was thinkin' of getting him to eat low carb with me....though he doesn't need to lose weight, would all the fat be more harm for him than good in regards to his high cholesterol? Anyone who struggles with high cholesterol, are there any supplements that you take to help keep the cholesterol count down, so to speak....i think someone made mention of flax seed oil capsules....how much? Any input would be greatly appreciated! : ) Sherry in frigid, but SUNNY NY : )

I'm still hoping he'll see the success and at least read the Atkins book. He really doesn't believe that when he says he can't imagine giving up his pasta and sweets that maybe it's because he's addicted. He is swimming every morning, so that's good, but I'm starting to buy some low fat things too because I worry that high carb and high fat is going to do him in. doh! Stupid hubbies! Guest guest
My hubby has stopped lowcarb too. He said he was going to do the Zone, but I don't think a bag of corn chips in one sitting is in the Zone plan. He has a dr's appt on Tues and I'm pretty sure that his blood pressure and cholesterol are going to be on the high side. Hopefully, the doctor can talk some sense into him. He's making a big mistake by eating all the higher fat stuff I cook for me in addition to his high carb bagels and rice and pasta. I on the other hand, have low cholesterol! It's 125, HDH - 55; LDL - 45.
