Guest guest
Ahhh, you got the hook and pitch! Very common here in south Florida. First they give you a little taste of what YOU want...then they gain credibility in your eyes. Then they hit you up for what THEY want and prey upon your desperation using your increased hopefulness (after the first positive appointment) to close the sale! Very common in sales...I should know. , please consider giving up on doctors. I know people say there are good ones, but really...they are so few and far between and time's awasting and you know what to do...??? Am I barking up the wrong tree here? If I am, please remember that I just care about you and want you to get well. angesc2001 wrote: In our last episode, was seen visiting the DO, who at first seemed too good to be true, especially after giving her a rather large supply of HC. Tune in today when says, " ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!! Another doctor visit down the crapper!!! " OK, so here's the scoop... Two weeks ago, I saw a new DO who appeared to have some promise, because he immediately gave me HC, and said he would have treated me in June when my saliva tests were scraping along the bottom of normal. There were a couple of things that concerned me, like the gymnasium-sized chelation center, but I chose to withhold judgment, because he talked about all of the right things...HC, rxs Naturethroid & Armour, believes autoimmunity can be reversed, iodine deficiency, stealth infections, etc. Also talked about heavy metal toxicity & IV chelation therapy, but it seems as if that was the last option out of all of the rest. Today I go in for my follow-up appt, and he asks how I am. I tell him that I'm amazingly better with the HC, but that I still have a couple of pesky little symptoms, like lower leg edema when I'm on the lower amounts of HC as the day progresses, that I can actually feel my thyroid " puffing up " after 4pm (when the 3rd HC dose wears down), that I still wake up with racing heart/palps about an hour after I go to sleep, and that I have the internal " buzzing " whenever my HC dosing is wearing thin. So, he responds that the swelling thyroid indicates that there must still be an autoimmune response. I said, hmmmm, I thought it was that when the cortisol wears off, it appears my thyroid is still " alive " & not suppressed, and so it starts trying with all it has to pump out more thyroid hormone. He said that the edema is from TOO MUCH HC. Don't know about that...maybe true, or it could be from TOO LITTLE, since it only happens after the largest AM dose wears off. When I told him that I got " hyper " (as in hyperthyroid) on the progesterone, he kind of brushed over what I said. Because... He tied all of these things together nicely with a symptom list for mercury toxicity, and told me that my next step should be...IV chelation therapy! OK, I know nothing about chelation & metal toxicity, but I do know this...even if it is a problem for me, it is NOT the most critical at this moment. Friendly reminder of my most critical issues... 1) serious adrenal fatigue 2) major progesterone deficiency, most likely contributing to both 1 & 3, and also contributing to extreme menstrual flow (not to be confused with the more enjoyable Extreme Homes or extreme sports!) 3) hypothyroidism When I said that I'd read [here, but I didn't say that] that chelation can be very hard on the adrenals and that perhaps I ought to stabilize the adrenals first, he said that he didn't think that I'd be able to balance the adrenals WITHOUT ridding my body of heavy metals. ARRRRRRGH!!! What about iodine deficiency? What about stealth infections? What about potential genetic adrenal and/or HPA axis defects, since my kids are having problems, and I've recently found out that several others in my large extended family have had adrenal problems (in addition to the fact that my dad gets the brown panda eyes when stressed or tired, just that he has the luxury of not having to deal with perimenopause, even though there is no one more deserving of going through it!) So, I purchased my 3-month supply of Naturethroid and went on my not-so-merry way. I will close this rant with a prayer... Dear Lord, if you are willing & able, PLEASE give me a sign that there is at least one doctor in the Great State of Ohio who will not overwhelm me with their ideology, be it big brother pharma, megavitamin therapy, heavy metal toxicity, or whatever crap du jour they come up with to extract my credit card number from me and relegate me to years of paying interest since I am not working due to my illness & since I am not independently wealthy, but who will care for me in a systematic & holistic manner to investigate and determine the nature and root cause of my illness. Lord, hear my prayer! AMEN! Comments, as always, are more than welcomed. This concludes this episode of The Idiot Doctor Chronicles. Even though he got this glazed over look as he talked about the evils of mercury toxicity...I think he really believes it, but I DON'T think it will stop the profuse bleeding next time I get my period!!! What was strange is that at the first appt, he said to come back in 2 weeks. This time he said nothing. That was weird to me, especially since he is so eager to " get to the root of the problem. " > > , please consider giving up on doctors. I know people say there are good ones, but really...they are so few and far between and time's awasting and you know what to do...??? Am I barking up the wrong tree here? If I am, please remember that I just care about you and want you to get well. > No, you're not barking up the wrong tree, and I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR KINDNESS & CARING!!! Just last night a placed an order for a hefty supply of HC so that I don't need to rely on anyone, and I only bought the N-throid there was because I wanted to augment my current supply! The reason I still want to TRY to find a good dr is that there are a couple of tests that I think I need that I can't get via saliva/Dr. or healthcheck. And, I KNOW that my husband won't agree to me treating my daughter. I had high hopes that maybe this dr would be able to look at what's going on in our family. Sorry, but I don't think it's exposure to toxic metals in our environment. OK, so maybe I'll slow the pace on looking. And I think I'll take my own advice (that I dispense to others here) and start taking whatever I need from the drs I do see. For example, the last QUACK got me an URGENT appointment in the end of January with an endo at Ohio State for a thyroid ultrasound, since I have a visible goiter and/or nodule again & anti-thyroglobulin antibodies, which I didn't know are a marker for thyca. (BTW...my mom had a cancerous nodule removed and the dr said it " burned itself out " & that he'd never seen anything like it & even did a seminar at a conference on it...antibodies at work?) My friend sees the OSU endo, so at least I know she's nice, but you know it's going to be the same old, same old with synthroid! But I was thinking, get the damn ultrasound and be done with it. And in fact, I was thinking that I'm also going to tell her all about my adrenal issues and demand an adrenal u/s or CT scan or MRI or whatever they do. I want to determine if my adrenals are normal in size & scope. She can do whatever bloodwork too for antibodies, etc. Of course I'm sure she'll tell me to go off N-throid and on synthroid. And I will politely tell her that I won't be doing that, and that I would, however appreciate if she would run the necessary tests to rule out X, Y & Z. And anything else she can think of. Then next week when I see my OB, I'm going to TELL her that I'm going to be doing the 11-vial saliva test, and that I'll let her know the results & we can decide how to proceed with bio-id hormone replacement after that. And on Friday, when I see the ped endo for my daughter, I'll be telling him more of the same, because I'm not going to have my daughter be someone's f*@king science project! Enough of this Mrs. Niceguy bullshit. I'm pissed & I'm tired of all of their ideologies. It's time for them to improve their damn customer service. Just in case anyone forgot...I'm the customer! I think I will have a consult with Pete. I am also working with Dr. , who has a great approach - that all of my drs are my consultants. I take in the info & then I make my decision based on what works for me. For the price, Pete sounds like a great consultant to add to my staff! Especially if he can refer to a good dr. Guest guest
, Actually IV chelation therapy is the real deal. It is extremely useful for several types of illnesses, specifically heart disease, it actually has much better odds than surgical procedures. It is also very useful for mercury and other toxic chemical that we are all exposed to. That being said, it is also very expensive. Would I do it in lieu of a heart procedure? In a New York second. However I don't think I would rush into doing it for chemical toxicity before first finding out a lot of other things. It is definitely not a quack procedure. It's actually not very easy to find doctors who do this, they are usually fairly discreet about it. Linn > Ahhh, you got the hook and pitch! Guest guest
That is you're the PAYING customer! Hotly, P.S. Have you thought about finding a nice, OLDER D.O. to treat you and your daughter? Guest guest
Linn, Here in south FL where we have lots of retirees, there are lots of chelation centers with hard-sell approaches. It's very out in the open here. I agree that there is definitely a lot to be said for chelation, but I don't think it is what should be addressed first if cardiac issues are not the primary reason for your visit to the doctor. It is hard on the body. I just went through trying to find a way to chelate mercury and lead from my system. The substances they use for IV chelation is something my poor bladder would not tolerate and so that's why I went the route of the Natural Cellular Defense. It was amazing how they practically cornered my hubby giving grave warnings for my future survival! Linn wrote: , Actually IV chelation therapy is the real deal. It's actually not very easy to find doctors who do this, they are usually fairly discreet about it. Linn > Ahhh, you got the hook and pitch!
Guest guest
, I've heard that also, not so much about the IV chelation, more with the oral supplements that they use for chelation. It's detoxing and that usually involves some type of symptoms that make you feel bad. I'm considering doing another parasite cleanse myself but I'm hesitant since I've been feeling so good lately, I don't want to feel really drained again. But then again, I stupidly did the last one pretty soon after my foot surgery which was just about the time my adrenal symptoms were getting full blown. But then again within a week or two I felt very good after it. Guest guest
Well isn't that interesting. Typical, take a really good thing and then screw it up somehow. That really ticks me off because this type of thing could be used mainstream for heart disease and save a lot of lives. It is used mainstream for heavy metal exposure. In fact that's usually the only way insurance will cover it. Of course in Florida, I think the main stay is just to make money off of all the old folks. My mom got into trouble more than once with her idiot doctors there, that I had to rescue her from. In a New York second. However I > don't think I would rush into doing it for chemical toxicity before > first finding out a lot of other things. THIS is the problem. We haven't worked out the more CRITICAL issues yet, such as my adrenal issues - I've only been on HC for 2 weeks, and my post-meno levels of progesterone even through I'm only 39. These two are my top priorities. And, my limited understanding is that IV chelation is very harsh on the adrenals. At this point in time I'm trying to stabilize, not add to the problem. Next on my list comes iodine deficiency, especially with respect to both thyroid and progesterone. On another forum I'm on, the practitioner no longer rx's progesterone, because iodine has caused progesterone to self-correct. With corrected progesterone, I will have more successful adrenal function. It is definitely not a > quack procedure. It's actually not very easy to find doctors who do > this, they are usually fairly discreet about it. Well, this guy is not discreet, nor is a room of at least 80 recliners & IV stands. It concerned me on my first visit, because of the massive scope - I thought that this has to be the bread & butter issue here. I'm not saying that it's a quack procedure. I may eventually consider it as an option. However, all roads led to Rome. In his mind, there was no possibility that anything other than mercury toxicity could be causing my problems. Not stealth infection, not iodine deficiency, not a physical flaw, such as small adrenals (think cats & interstitial cystitis - I loved that article!), not gluten intolerance - all of these things we talked about as possibilities on the first visit, which is why I was interested. He made the chelation seem like the last option on the first visit. Now on the second visit, it was the first option, and if that doesn't work, then we can look at the other things. And, may I say that he ordered no labs whatsoever. No hair sample, no nothing. He did have my saliva tests and recent bloodwork that I had done elsewhere. To me, that's not exactly great investigative work. The way he handles it is to do a " loading test " - basically, do the first chelation, then collect urine for the next 24 hours & analyze for heavy metals. He even said that EVERYONE has heavy metals in the urine after the loading test. So, if everyone has heavy metals in the urine, how is it that we REALLY determine that I have heavy metal toxicity? I'm sorry, but that method reaked of the Emperor's New Clothes. Want to do a hair sample & then tell me how it compares to what it should be? Different story. But don't tell me that everyone has it and that's why I need it. Anyway, I rant... Warmly,

I've only had a couple replaced as I needed two crowns (YUCK!) and one filling replaced. He didn't even ask me about my fillings. He was just going on and on about all of the toxins in Ohio, that it's the dirtiest state in the Union, blah, blah, blah. One thing I can say is that I probably won't be getting my fillings replaced unless TOTALLY dentally necessary. I have terrible dent-o-phobia. There's not enough HC in the universe for that! LOL! I have no problem with being on thyroid meds, even if for life. But this idea that autoimmunity can be reversed is VERY interesting to me, whether or not it reverses thyroid med requirements. More important to me would be that the autoimmunity doesn't continue on to other glands, etc., which may already be happening. This dr and several others that I have consulted with have made a good argument for this autoimmune reversal. But... If you look at all of the possibilities that have been discussed as possible " causes " for the immune reaction - iodine deficiency, stealth infections, gluten intolerance & heavy metal toxicity - it would be reasonable to consider that I might have any or several of them. So why start with the most invasive & expensive, especially without testing? If he had said let's start testing for all of these, that would have been a VERY different story. But his approach was, do the chelation FIRST, then if that doesn't work, we'll look at the other issues. Seems bass-ackwards to me! Actually, I spoke with Dr. last night & he concurred with what you said - that iodine can do a lot in the detox department, even with heavy metals. He said that he favors a gentler approach - that adding in certain things, such as iodine, can send other things out. He said that if one opts for IV chelation that some hefty counterbalancing steps must be taken or a person could become very ill. He agreed that it's NOT a good idea with adrenal fatigue. What I really like about Dr. is that he believes that the body is resilient, and once the critical issues are addressed - like treating the adrenal fatigue and super-low progesterone for me - that things can be added & adjusted more slowly. Hopefully some of that will rub off on me...then again, I have been at critical mass lately in terms of health issues. Probably as they subside, it will be easier to take a more relaxed approach. Guest guest
It's my understanding that you don't even START chelating for mercury toxicity until your mercury fillings have been removed. So if he didn't address that, I would be even MORE wary.
