Hi, Everyone,

I am using the Acucheck Voice Mate. It is the talking one. Do any of you

use something different? For that matter, is there any other talking meter

on the market? I have seen meters used by sighted people that I know and

they are so small compared to the one that I have. Mine comes in two parts

and I have had to send it back and get a new part twice now. I do have to

say that the company is good about sending replacement parts and solution.

I only have Medicare at this point and I wish the strips and the lancets

weren't so expensive. At this point I don't have drug coverage, but that's

another story.

1. MediCare should be paying for at least part of the cost of your strips.

Call MediCare and find out what you have to do in order for that to happen.

2. the other company that makes a talking glucose meter is the One Touch.

Both of these machne have problems-neither is perfect and both are bigger

and take more time to process a blood sample than the nice little ones that

you are seeing advertised on TV.

We all keep hoping for a smaller, faster one that will not require a finger

stick. Supposedly they are working on that!

Hi,

One touch have a replacement for the profile. They said that if

someone call with problems with the profile, they will replace it

with a one touch altra smart meter. She told me that it will work

with the digi-voice.

Does the OneTouch UltraSmart really work with the speech? I have an

UltraSmart and an Ultra, but wasn't aware of any speech box that would work

with them.

Hi,

That's what the lady at lifescan told me. She told me that it will

work with the one touch altra smart. This was about a half of hour

ago. She said that it will be replacing the one touch profile. She

said that it's just a up grade.

The only life scan models that support the speach boxe are the one touch basic,

profile, and sure step. If a life scan rep told you otherwise, they are

misinformed.

Trust me, I been using life scan for nearly 20 years and know the products grin.

Could you let me know what you find out? I have some vision so don't use any

speech at the moment, but on the UltraSmart all I can see is the very large

test results it displays, none of the menus or graphs you can use to track

everything. If speech does work with it, I'd like to get the speech box.

Then all I'd need is a Lantus pen and everything would be accessible to me.

There is a watch available which does not require a finger stick but the

cost of batteries is prohibitive. Also, from what I have been told, you

receive a shock when it checks the sugar level. I guess I would rather have

the finger stick.

Hi ,

Well I just called them again to verify if this was true and this

other rep told me that it will not work with the digi-voice. They

wasn't for sure because they don't have too much to do with it. So I

will call the company that makes the digi-voice tomorrow to see if

they made one for the one touch altra smart.

Hi Otis.

Keep me updated on this. I seriously am wondering if the one rep misspoke. As

long as I have been with life scan, the only models to have the voice box have

been the basic, sure step, and profile.

Otis,

I do not think there is anaything which will work with the Ultra meters.

It is sad because the Ultra meters are really quite good and reliable.

Crystal, my sighted wife, uses the Ultra Smart and really likes it. She

also has th eUltra One Touch.

If you find a speech unit for the Ultras please let me know...

Would you please send a little more information on the watch?

If you take the blood samples as often as you really should the cost of

those strips is also prohibitive, probably just about $100 per month.

I will see what I can find out. It's been some time since I have heard

anything, but I will check to see if I can find out anything from the nurse

educator that taught me how to use my meter. It may take a little while,

but I will do my best. If I recall, it worked by measuring the acidity of

the skin, but don't quote me on that. I'll get back to you.
