Mandi,

That's awesome.

had his first injection yesterday. I'll let you know how it's going

in a few weeks. I don't know what to expect because he is more Aspie or

PDD_NOS.

The shots were started then additional supplements were added all separately.

We first did all the testing, amino acid, immune panels, thyroid

studies, vitamin levels and polymorphisms that are VERY commmon among

neurologically delayed children, not just autistic children. Then we

did the diet for a month, to evaluate the changes just from that

which were huge, we were waiting for the test results as the

supplements are based on the childs individual needs. Second month we

did the folinic/tmg, multivitamin, zinc calcium/vit d. Third month we

added the mb12, the way we did it we saw nothing but major gains in

all areas that seemed to compound week by week. Skills were

instinctively gained w/o any outside interventions, we had done all

that, with insurance exhausted on that front we decided to try the

above and haven't looked back.My son was in the follow up Jill

study, so we did her protocol, so he " seemed " to be primed

nutritionally first to have no negatives what so ever when we added

the mb12.

We were doing the diet and ProEFA for a few months before starting our

shots. We did the shots for a month and then I read that folinic acid

was recommended so we had our doc call in a prescription for the

pre-filled syringes with folinic acid added to them. That turned out

to be a bad idea for us. My son did terribly (very, very hyper) when

we added the folinic. I don't know how he'd do on oral folinic - we

haven't dared try it. Also, I think Dr. Neubrander doesn't recommend

adding the folinic to the MB-12 in one shot because it changes the

viscosity of the MB-12 and it is very important that the viscosity not

be interfered with. Not sure the science behind that .

DAN dr prescribed injectable B12 for my son. (age 3 yrs 10 mo) Has this

worked for anyone? She said it has done wonders for some children. She said

that

test results can show fine B12 in the blood but the body may not be breaking

it down properly to use it. I think she said the shots are methanol (?) B12

so it is already broken down for the body to use.

I would like to know what to expect.

Hi ,

We've recently (2/8/05) started MB12 shots with our son (along with

TMG and folacal) and feel that we are seeing results. He's more

alert and aware of his environment. More social, conversational and

the only " bad " thing we can report is that in his verbosity, what

goes though his mind comes out his mouth. (ie: at his martial arts

class the other night he was heard to say " this is stupid " ) We're

working on that...and he does seem to be getting much better. He is

14 so we know the progress is apt to be slow. We've got time.

Good luck to you and your child~

I use oral B12 for my kids. They require it with folic acid and TMG,

otherwise it causes problems. However, those three things together

cause nice improvements.

My 2.4 yr old son has been getting B12 injections for about a three months

now. I have seen some nice improvements, especially in verbal and receptive

language. He said his first two word after being on B12 for two weeks. We

started with B12 and this month moved to B12 with folinic acid. Good luck,

Hi all,

Recently, I remember an information about the doctor in Quebec who is

following dr. Neubrander in researching the effects of methyl B12 shots. There

was a link to his web site and an article about his view. I desperately need

this information right now. Any hints would be appreciated!

Yes, I have heard of children gaining speech suddenly after methyl B12 shots or

sublingual

methyl B12 or even nasal spray; and also after going on casein-free, gluten-free

diets. But

fish oils contain essential fatty acids that are mainly missing in our usual

diets, let alone the

often very self-restricted diets that our children eat. The B12 is often

deficient too, but

toxicity from heavy metals including mercury makes the biochemical pathway to

make methyl

B12 very vulnerable.

Peace,

Kathy E.

I currently give my daughter sublingual MB-12/B-6/folic acid/biotin,

3 pro-EFA, 1 pro-EPA, lipoceutical glutathione, lots of vitamin C,

and a multivitamin. We've also tried Carn-Aware and GABA, as well

as the GFCF diet. There are lots of options out there - if you have

an idea about a cause for your child's speech delay it's easier to

pick treatments.

Kerri,

What is the brand name of the sublingual MB-12/B-6/Folic acid/biotin

supplement you give your daughter? Is it something I can purchase without a

prescription? If so, where? We've been doing the pro-EFA, but would like

to try the MB-12.

Thanks,

Yes, the methyl B12 shots definitely helped both my kids' language,

much more than fish oil did. I would follow the Neubrander protocol

and not add in folinic or NAC (give folinic orally at the same time

though). These were/are a great thing for us. Some can get the same

benefit from methyl B12 nasal spray but not all - my son still needs

the shots.

Pam,

It's made by Wonder Labs. You can purchase it online without a

prescription, and it's not all that expensive. I don't think the

sublingual is as effective as the shots, and my daughter usually

ends up chewing hers after a few minutes, decreasing the

effectiveness even more. We didn't notice any big increase in

speech, but my daughter is talking pretty well and it's hard to

tell. I think that the B-complex is good for her, so I'll continue

to use it at least until my supply runs out.

Unfortunately, I didn't notice a difference in either of my kids with the shots.

Just like everything else, it's just trial and error. Every child is different.

If fish oils work, which with the right formula they do for almost

all in this group, you may not need to do anything else.

Many here have tried carn-aware and/or carnosine (not carnotine even

though a few have used that too) at some point and that's not as

consistent but works well for some too. Most don't continue to use

it as they do with fish oils. Things like Epsom Salt baths and

other benign things such as that many in this group have tried too

even though that's not a supplement of course. But diet is. Not

that it 'has' to be a special diet but try to limit the " bad " fats

like fried foods while exploring fish oils at first. Too many " kids

meals " everywhere include things like deep fried chicken fingers,

fries etc. Tonight my son Tanner ate tuna and clams. I know fresh

seafood isn't the best either due to toxins in the water -but my

boys love seafood (and Tanner especially loves all veggies)

Many also explore alternative therapies in addition to traditional

speech and occupational therapy. The brain responds to multiple

stimuli and multisensory approaches to therapy and education are the

best.

If fish oils alone do not " work " you can try other biomedical

approaches and there are many here who can explain more. In this

group are those who have explored the B12 shots. My elderly Aunt

loves them but I myself never read enough positive results with the

children here to feel compelled to try it with either of my boys. I

asked them if they wanted to try it and both said no. As I always

say however, if my boys were not doing as well as they were doing I

would certainly not hesitate to explore more than fish oil and

Flintstones complete!

Shots are given because the yeast takes all the B12. It is needed for

many functions in the body including utilizing fat. Try Dr.

Neubrander's site. He is the one who developed this protocol.

[ ] B12 shots

In less than 3 weeks my son has his DAN appointment to begin B12

shots. His main problem is being non-verbal and that is why our DAN is

recommending the shots. I'm just wondering what is it about the B12

vitamin that kick starts someone's speech? I have heard about children

that were non-verbal and then after 3 shots or so, they begin to talk.

Also, if anyone has any good sites or stories about the B12 shots I

would appreciate it if you could pass them on to me.

Thanks,

Hi, I don't post here often, but just go to Dr. Neubrander's web site,

www.drneubrander.com

He has videos of kids, papers describing why it works, etc.

I wondered about that, if you paid for it the next day. Does you rh

give them to you?

Hi

I took B12 injectable's for several years- still do when severe fatigue hits

.... We combined w/ thiamine. 1 cc of each 1x a week. Dr gave rx for med and

needles.

It's reasonably cheap, ya give to yourself or someone else can. Have link

for instructions on how to if ya need them.

Most of the time I find sublingual B-12 works well also.
