- Sorry to hear that your hystosonogram was not successful. That happened to me last January 2000. I had an HSG in Sept. 99 and the doctor who did it had a hard time putting the catheter in and when they finally got one in, they had to hurry to take the x-rays.

When I spoke to the RE after he reviewed the xrays he said they needed to do a hystosonogram and after a few months of hassling the office, I got an appointment in Jan 2000. Well this doc had the hardest time with the catheter and he could not get it in. He suggested that I get a diagnostic hysteroscopy done and if there was anything going on in the uterus, he would fix it.

Well months went by again and after getting no response from this RE office, I switched to another RE and he reviewed the x-rays and had an open discussion with my husband and me. He gave me all the detail and drew out the plan: I was to have a diagnostic/operative hysteroscopy with a diagnostic/operative laparascopy. I had this done within weeks of this first appointment I had with him --- he put in a catheter w/ a balloon to hold the walls of the uterus up and that was taken out a week after, went through follow up, took all the drugs, and now I am currently on CD4 (Still heavy flow!) so the cavity is open.

The scarring was around the cervix area and I had additional scarring in the top of the uterus and on the side walls. I still had a period, but it was VERY irregular. After the surgery, I had 2 follow up appointments to re-check for scarring, and he used a thicker catheter which was made of metal. It was easy to insert those 2 times and the doctor was pleased with my progress.

Hopefully all goes well for you in getting this procedure done. I don't think this is something you can do under local anesthetic because Hazel is right, if they are going to have to cut in the cervix area, you will need to be under.
