Guest guest
Hi , Glad to hear that everything went well. As you may recall, Ralph had da Vinci surgery on May 15th. I was with Ralph the whole time he was there (just over 24 hours). We found the whole time there was a really anxious one, even though his treatment was good and we were assured that the cancer was contained. The surgeon took one side of the nerves, as the cancer was close. Once we got home, we were able to relax a lot more. Ralph found the catheter annoying, not uncomfortable or painful. I dont know how you are travelling home, but Ralph forgot to take pain medication for our two hour drive home, and he paid for it, so if you are in a position to, drug up! Please feel free to write and compare notes if you would like. We found ourselves watching everything as it happened, wondering if this is how it should be. Of course it was, but with something like this, the 'what ifs' can hit big time! Feel better soon, . Kind Regards, Coy wrote: Folks: I had my RP performed 4 days ago (Wednesday) June 11. We should have the final pathology of my prostate this coming Friday and a definitive explanation of the stage of my tumor and the surgical margins that were able to be achieved. From the initial post surgical conversations with the Uro, it appears the surgery went well. There were no complications. My lymph nodes were clear. Both sets of nerves were able to be spared. The Uro and his staff have seen me numerous times since the surgery was complete. They assure me (and my wife) that "it's all good". My primary care doctor has also seen me twice while I've been in the hospital. Post surgery, my Uro puts his patients into ICU so they receive a lot of individual care. I was transferred from ICU to a medical-surgical room this afternoon (from which I am writing this missive). If all goes well tonight, I should be able to go home tomorrow (along with my new best friend, my catheter). My emotions are pretty turbulent right now. I don't think the reality that the surgery has happened has fully registered with me. I continue to be anxious about the final pathology. Guest guest
Thanks, . It's two miles from the hospital to my home. With this said, I have been taking pain medication to stay ahead of things. Guest guest
, I'm glad to hear things are going good for you. had his RP 5 weeks ago tuesday. He would also reccomend keeping up the pain pills and not waiting until he couldn't stand the pain to take them. he did stop taking them after a week because he wanted to " feel " what was going on in his body. He had his 4 week checkup last week and the doc said all is good. We await the first of many informative PSA tests that were done last thursday. I'm not sure if anyone else had this, (I haven't read about it anywhere), developed a little hard knot under the skin near his incision. It is pretty much the only pain he has left. It kinda felt like an infected stitch or something. the Doc said it was a knot of some sort related to the surgery. Not to worry. nice to whine about some so small for a change though. Yeah he has no incontinence! Unless I get evil and decide to tickle him into uncontrollable laughter. what Power I now have! LOL Because of all I read here about ED I insisted he discuss penile rehabilitation with his doctor now and not after months of failed attempts at erection. Probably the doctor would have brought it up, but sounds like they don't always. word from the wise.......be really careful with you children when you mention viagra or levetra. A stray remark on my part really offended my daughter. Oh well lesson learned for us both I guess. good luck with all your post op stuff and take it easy. > > > > Folks: > > > > I had my RP performed 4 days ago (Wednesday) June 11. Guest guest
Teri & Laurel: Thanks for your comments - they are appreciated, very much. I'm home. I was discharged yesterday (Sunday 6/15) a little after 2:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (USA). All seems well. My first follow-up with the Uro is Wednesday, 6/18 for removal of the surgical drain and the staples from the incision. The Uro feels we are in good shape, and it is his sense that additional treatment for the PCa will not be needed at this time. We should have the pathology report on Wednesday as well. Guest guest
Sounds like all is going well and your after surgery attention is remarkable compared to what I experienced. Sure hope all goes well with the path. reports. A very trying time to be sure. I was pretty amazed at how fast I was able to get back to (near) normal after such a major operation. Keep us posted on your results.
