Guest guest
I know *some* people like Atkins Bars. I was just poking a little humor here. I did find a lo carb bar that won me over...Carb Solutions. I'm so I found the carb solutions at my favorite supermarket (finally). I kept looking and today they had them in(never had before. I was buying them at WalMart.) I had to laugh though. Along with the single bars priced at $1.97 they had boxes of 5 with one free at $11.99! Well, it doesn't take much to figure out that this is more expensive than single bars! ; ) K in MI

Guest guest
, I don't mind the almond brownie bars. I put them in the microwave for about 10 seconds (without wrapper) and they are not bad at all (at least for my taste). Do you have any suggestions for any low-carb substitute bars that are better tasting? My daughter took a piece of one and said she couldn't get the awful taste out of her month. Guest guest
The first Atkins Bar I tried was horrible. The old macadamia nut bars - YUCK!!! But I have found some of the newer varieties to be okay. They are never, ever going to be mistaken for a candy bar that is a given. However, the I have gotten a couple boxes of the chocolate peanut butter and they pass in a pinch. I have probably never had a whole bar in one day, much less one meal/snack. As a little pick-me-up or snack, or as a quick meal replacement, I am glad to have the convenience sometimes. I wouldn't suggest going out and buying a box unless you know you will end up eating them, some people cannot stand the taste no matter which kind they get. I don't eat them often, but they are nice to have around. Jean 190/138.5/130 12/7/

Guest guest
Dwen, Welcome to the list. I haven't seen many suggestions for you on what to eat, but there are lots and lots of things that you can have. I have tried the almond brownie bars too and thought they were okay. I heard that warmed with AS'd whipped cream is wonderful. The one thing I would suggest is that you do the math on the possible true carb counts as you may or may not be sensitive to the glycerin that is in them. If you are, the carb count is higher than the stated value. This is even more true for the carb solution bars, which most people think taste better than Atkins bars. To let you know what I am talking about: 1 g of fat = 9 calories 1 g carb = 4 calories 1 g protein = 4 calories The Atkins chocolate peanut butter bar has 13 g of fat, 2.6* g carb, and 19 g protein. Now the calories, if you do the math would be 13 x 9 = 117 from fat, 2.6 x 4 = 10.4 from carbs, and 19 x 4 = 76 from protein. The total calories then should be 117 + 10.4 + 76 = 203.4 However, the bar lists 218 calories. 218 - 203.4 = 14.6 calories that are not accounted for. Now if you look at the carb count there is an * by it with an explanation that " polydextrose, xylitol and glycerine are omitted from the carb count as their impact on bloodsugar/insulin levels is negligible " . In other words, there are hidden carbs. The 14.6 divided by 4 calories per carb gram = 3.65 additional carbs. So add the 3.65 and the 2.6 that are listed and the true carb count is 6.25. Now that really isn't bad, but it could throw someone on induction way off. If memory serves, the almond brownie bars are even higher in carbs if you are sensitive to the glycerin. So what do you do? Pay attention, if you stop losing after eating an Atkins bar, you may need to limit your intake. If there is no change in weight/inches lost, don't worry about it. Hope this helps!
