Congratulations!! I'm glad to hear that is doing so well. It has

also occurred to me that it all happening so suddenly, may be a blessing.

This way maybe you were spared the " what ifs " and all of the other things to

contemplate before such a surgery. It sounds like God is looking out for you

all!

I'll pray for more good things to come. Keep us posted.

Congratulations and Irene. I'm so happy for you both. These next few

days will be stressful Irene, but try to get some time in for yourself. You

will need it.

Once again, congrats. And if you have the time, keep us updated.

irene!!! ohmygosh ohmygosh OHMYGOSH OHMYGOSH!!!! praise God for this gift

of life for martin! just as you said, it is soooooo fortunate, God's timing

being what it is, that this happened for martin at a time when he felt

" strong " for the transplant. what an incredible blessing! if martin's

anything like jim, he will be restored to a quality of life that he's almost

forgotten he once had!

that long, long " chronic " time leading up to transplantation is like boot

camp, really... and the surgery itself is the war. i know you're still

stunned, but thank goodness things moved along so quickly! now you can just

gear yourself up for what i pray will be a smooth-as-silk recovery. be sure

you are good to yourself, and get adequate rest and nutrition. you KNOW how

i fell apart with you on the phone and just cried my heart out when we were

up at USC for jim!

you typed: (Abnormal LFTs since 1986; diag. PSC 1998; listed at UCLA 2/2001;

and transplanted 5/2002 -- I never thought I would have typed that this soon

=) <--- sweetie, it IS quite surreal to update these sign offs, isn't it?

:-)

our love to you all -- let us know what we can do -- if you have any

questions martin would like in the recuperative process for me to ask jim,

perhaps.

you will REMAIN in our prayers. jim will be SO THRILLED when i share this

awesome news with him tonight when he gets home from work!!! God is so

good!

love,

maureen (wife of jim: UC '84; PSC '96; Living Related Transplant on 12/7/01

thanks to our firstborn and donor son, jason, age 24])

I am so glad to hear about . I thank God he was able to receive his

liver at a time when he was strong enough to endure the operation.

Prayers are going up from New Jersey for you and your entire family.

I am still operating in a semi-shock mode, but I just talked to the

hospital (UCLA) again and the reality is starting to set in ....

received a new liver this morning.

We received a phone call last night from UCLA at 11:30 p.m. that they

had a liver for . At first thought they had called the

wrong recipient but to make a long story short, by 1:30 a.m. this

morning he was being wheeled into the operating room; by 5:30 a.m.

the new liver was functioning; and by 9:30 a.m. was giving me

and our son the " thumbs-UP " !! Everything happened extremely FAST and

so far (knocking on wood) smooth.

has had his ups and downs with PSC symptoms for the last two

years and was listed at UCLA 2/01/01. In the last two years, his

Total Bili has been as high as 11.8; down to 1.8 after stenting; then

back up to 6.9 last month. Over this period, he has experienced two

really BAD bouts with extreme itching, jaundice and fatigue and only

finding relief after stenting. Suddenly over the last two months,

his Total Bili went back up to 6.9 resulting in a MELD score of 17.

This time though, there was an absence of itching and fatigue, but

his doctor knew the liver was worsening by the high Bili count. We

on the other hand, were going by his symptoms and thought the

transplant would be a long ways away. Luckily it came at a time when

was feeling good and he was strong for the transplant.

is expected to be in ICU for two days and in the hospital for

10 to 14 days. So far I am very pleased with his progress. Like I

said, I am still very surprised this has all taken place so FAST and

so far thankful everything is going smooth.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
