Guest guest
Hi, Does anyone know why the drs seem to almost always prescribe Premarin for us, especially after our hysteroscopies? I know I have read that Premarin is a good general estrogen that helps all parts of the body that need and benefit from estrogen (bones, etc,. in addition to uterus), while the various forms of estradiol (estrace, patches, and injectable estradiol valerate), are more specific to the uterine lining and the breasts. Is there something, then, about Premarin that makes it superior to one of the forms of estradiol for our linings post-op? We are given Premarin then, but when it is time for a real cycle such as IVF, then we are given large doses of estradiol to really thicken up our linings. Hmmm. Why? Guest guest
Terri, I don't think there is a true answer as to why Premarin is the preferred choice. I think it is just a well known brand and doctors just go for it. But you are right, when doctors perform IVF they never give Premarin but large doses of estradiol to help thicken our linings. I wonder if they are missing something here. I noticed on our hormone chart that 16 women out of 25 women took Premarin. I guess another reason is that not much research has been done into Ashermans and therefore, no one has told these doctors differently. They know that Premarin is estrogen and it sells well so maybe that could be one reason?? There are lots of web sites "against" using Premarin because of the cruelty to mares. Here is just one of those sites I found: http://www.premarin.org/Poly
