Guest guest
Hi 'mchapman'! Welcome! You are going to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this message board! There are some fabulous gals here that are so loving and warm and you will feel totally different about eating! You started with the same book (Weigh Down) that I did. I am in the midst of re-reading it and highlighting etc. It really is a good, helpful book. Many of the gals here have read it as well and have also added other books to their collection regarding IE. I might go check some out of the library -- think my hubby would go nuts if I bring home ONE MORE self-help/weight loss type book! Ü I'm finding the same problem as you...the stopping when full problem. Although, a revelation this morning after reading someone's post -- I think I'm actually AFRAID of the hunger pangs as well. The minute I feel the hunger -- I'm off and running to eat to " cure " the hunger. I've got to just take my time and let this " natural eating " process take over and not be so afraid. I'm being very patient with myself - mostly because of the help I've received from this board already (and I'm a newbie as well -- two weeks into the IE plan) Good luck and I'm sure we'll be 'talking' more soon! Guest guest
Hi everyone. My name is and have been struggling with my self-image for about 10 years now. I was doing Weight Watchers for about 2 years and lost a significant amount of weight, however found myself not anxious about holidays, going out with friends, work outtings. I wasn't having any fun because I was so worried about what I ate and whether or not I would be " good " that day. In the end, I never learned to stop the binge eating that lead to my initial weight gain and started to feel like I was heading towards an eating disorder. I quit Weight Watchers in December and have not been on a scale since. I started reading the Intuitive Eating book in January, but have not yet finished it. However, I do feel like I've made a bit of progress. I'm do not feel nearly as much guilt as I did when I've eaten too much for my natural hunger levels and have been slowly chipping away at the " bad " food vs. " good " food mentality. Lately, I've been frustrated with my self-image and the thoughts of going on another diet have been popping into my head. I realized that I need some support in the journey of becoming an Intuitive Eater and not going on another diet. That's what lead me to this list. My usual support group doesn't quite get the Intuitive Eating thing and I know that in order to succeed at this, I'm going to need to talk with people about how to make peace with food and myself. Guest guest
I've read Intuitive Eating by Tribole, but no other books. Is there a place somewhere online that summarizes the different books so that I could choose another one while still making sure that I agree with the basic philosophy of the author? (I'm limited on time and funds for reading materials). Thanks for any input. Re: Newbie Hi ,I read Geenen Roth's books many years ago and while I totally lovedand agreed with them, I couldn't get her method going for me. I cameupon early this year and the only reason I can 'get' it now is due tosupport groups like this one. Don't give up and jump right in here -you will do great >> Hi everyone. Guest guest
Amazon.com has a pretty good 'review' of each book plus people do make comments about how they felt about a book there too. I usually check out Half.com for prices too. Another way is to make a list from Amazon and then go to a larger book store ( & Noble) to look at the books and read a bit to really check them out. I felt the IE book was very complete, yet I also like Overcoming Overeating and wish I had read it first as I found it better for starting out in IE. Best wishes - Katcha > > I've read Intuitive Eating by Tribole, but no other books. Guest guest
Once you've checked out the reviews on Amazon & half.com, see if your local library has them. That has saved me Loads of $$$ because I'm not stuck with a book I don't agree with or get anything out of. Our library had books by Roth, Tribole, Munter/Hirschmann, Matz/el and others - best of luck. cw Moody friends. Drama queens. Your life? Nope! - their life, your story. Play Sims Stories at Yahoo!
