If the adenomyosis can be visually recognized, as with an adenomyoma, local excision or cauterization during laparoscopy can be effective. We have removed many localized areas of adenomyosis with good symptom relief. Unfortunately, most of the time the disease is scattered invisibly throughout the uterine muscle. Attempts to control the symptoms of deep adenomyosis with endometrial ablation have not been uniformly successful. ****************** Since Dr. Alan DeCherney has, quite literally, " written the book " on operative gynecology, I think that if he were asked about the issue of removing localized areas of adenomyosis through surgery you would find that he has indeed done this in the past and may well have some additional thoughts on this. Considering that the person who brought this conversation thread up in the first place is a patient of Dr. DeCherney's, I'm wondering whether or not he presented surgical excision as an option to you during your consult with him?
