Guest guest
and Norma were asking about Zoladex Zoladex (Goserelin Acetate) is a GnRH agonist*.This class of drugs, which includes Synarel and Lupron, acts against oestrogen and causes fibroid shrinkage. The shrinkage is temporary as fibroids will regrow if the drug is discontinued. These drugs have side effects similar to menopausal symptoms. They are usually administered just for a few months, to stop heavy bleeding and to shrink fibroids preparatory to surgery. Zoladex is given as a monthly injection. It reduces the amount of the oestrogen " oestradiol " in circulation. Menstrual bleeding can actually be heavier at first, before if decreases or stops. If you are very anaemic you will need to have iron supplements as well. I read that it takes a couple of months for periods to resume after treatment is discontinued. * I've read of Zoladex specifically referred to as an " LHRH analogue " , chemically similar to Luteinising hormone-releasing hormone (a hormone which stimulates production of LH and FSH involved in release of eggs from the ovaries). I don't have have any practical experience of using this drug or any of its relatives.
