About Iron-Since I was found to be anemic I have been taking both SlowFe

(over the counter at drug stores) and

Floradix Iron and Herbs. ( Health food stores)

Neither has made me constipated or given me diarrhea. But before I found them

I did get a horrible case of diarrhea from ingesting too many dried apricots

and spinach!

The former is in tablet form. The latter a liquid. Taking Vit c along with

the Iron helps it be absorbed better. I went to see a hematologist about the

matter, who suggested two-three tablet of SlowFe a day. Then when by iron

level had risen one-two SlowFe tablets a day.

Hi Dee,

I hope you don't mind that I've responded to your question. I've been

taking an iron supplement for about 4 weeks now, it is ferrous furmerate

400mg a day (which comes to about 120 mg of elemental iron) and it has made

me so constipated, I've had a lot of bloating and lower back pain. I've been

taking a stool softener and trying to increase the fibre in my diet to

counteract the constipation. I do also have alot of gas which can be quite

troublesome when I'm at work. I'm not sure why you are experiencing diarrhea

with your iron supplement? maybe it's just a different kind of supplement

from the one I'm taking. Hope that you are feeling better soon,

Sylvie

Iron and hysteroscopic resection--day 9

Liz,

Glad the resection went well. Gives me hope.

I noticed you're taking iron supplements. My doctor prescribed

65mg of ferrous sulfate (sp?) and it gave me diarrhea. I tried

another kind that had calcium in it and was supposed to be

" easier " on my stomach. It gave be gas so bad, my clothes didn't

fit. I'm back to taking my 18mg/B-complex with mild gas problems.

Are you experiencing any of this? What kind of iron supplement

are you taking?

Thanks,

Dee

Dee,

Just a note: I have been taking Iron 50 mg (2x a day) from Solaray.

This iron product is reacted with whole rice concentrate rather than

soy, yeast or milk products. I have had no nausea or constipation

with this product compared to some of the others I have tried.

Good Luck

As for elimination, have you tried " formula one " of Dr. Shultz line? I

think you can get them wherever they sell his " superfood " which are various

herbs and things. I have the 1-800 number, they will tell you what exactly

is in it and how well it works, you drink the herbs like tea, or mix in

water. He has a free video that talks about it. He is out of Marina Del

Rey, California.

Dee~

I am taking 18 mg of iron in a multiple vitamin, 20 mg in a multi-

mineral complex (including calcium), and two 50 mg tablets of Slow Fe

(equal to 320 mg of ferrous sulfate) each day. I take about half in

the morning and then about half in the evening. I have not

experienced diarrhea or constipation, but I do have a lot of gas

which I had not connected to the iron, but now that I've read all

these other posts, I'm thinking this may be causing it. I'm hoping

that's true!
