My feeling is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you had excellent BP

control with your prior medicine and your doc changed it with only the reason

that " I think it will be better for you, " I would suspect he got free samples

from drug company and is pushing a product. . How can it be better for you if

what you were taking worked fine???? Vicki

I've been on Lotensin (an ACE Inhibitor) for several years with very good

results. For some reason, known only to him, he has unilaterally decided not

to renew my Lotensin, but to put me on " Vaso-Tek " (sp) I have not picked it

up yet.

My question is this: earlier today I read something about Ace inhibitors

either being good or bad for insulin resistance (which I should add, I also

do not understand): Am I better off with ACE inhibitor (Lotensin) or the

Calcium Channel Blocker (Vasotek)????????

My Blood pressure readings have been excellent and I cannot imagine why the

Doc changed it. I did ask him and his answer was " I think it will be better

for you " . . . " Try it for a month and let's see " . . . " I have other calls to

make and have to go now " . " Click " :-)

I haven't a clue what to do and am asking for advice from someone who truly

understands this " stuff " .

Thanks,

Art

I would ask the question again...and if he gives you the same answer ask him

to please explain his reasoning. If he sidesteps this, I'd say find another

doc, smile. Doctors are only human...not gods. Vicki

Oh yeah? Ask this guy. The only reason I keep going to him is that his

Nurse is great. She does most of the work anyway, but she needs his

approval for meds.

Ok, Art, being treated that way by my Dr would really tork me off!

Since you asked, he owes you a decent explanation of the reason for the

change of meds. It may just be that the salesman for the new drug came in and

convinced him to push it (it happens). I would demand a good reason. The Dr

is, after all your employee, whether he sees it that way or not!

In the old days, before I became diabetic, researched and learned better, I

put with a lot of such treatment by Drs, but no more. I refer to this as the

" God " complex " - Do what I tell you because I said so. After all, I am the

professional who knows what is best for you.

OK, off the soap-box!

In deference to Drs, many (probably most) of their patients don't really want

to know what's going on and need to be " directed " in their treatment.

Unfortunately, when they run into patients such as many on this list who are

educated about their disease and ask specific pointed questions, they just

don't know how to deal with it.

Were it me, I would contact the Dr again and ask for good reasons for the

change. " I think it will be better

for you " isn't an answer, its a dismissal. He may be right, but still owes

you the explanation.

I don't have any clue to your question about which is better. You may want to

go to rxlist.com and do a search on both meds and see what you turn-up.
