Lissi:

It depends upon how much the regular stuff drives up your bG readings. For

my part, I can't get very excited about *either* diet *or* regular pop! Now

Drinking regular pop is deadly for keeping those blood sugars. It is pure

sugar-over 150 calories in non-useful sugar and it raise your blood sugar at

least 100 points, which as a type 2 diabetic takes days to get down. The

only way ;you can tell what it does to you is to do a blood sugar 2 hours

after drinking it. I know a lot of people who hated die pop, but after

slowly converting to it, found thtat the regular poptasted too sweet. Soda

is not really good for anyone; not only diabetics, but also non-diabetics as

it hs lots of potassium.

Re: question, bad situation

Dear Shane and Everyone,

I no doubt missed something in trying to catch up with this list, but it

seems you said that you drank pop after not having any for 2 years and that

meant you had blown it.

I'm concerned for you, but I only lasted for 2 months before drinking a

regular cola.

Were you saying that the one soda did harm?

I ask because I love regular pop and hate the diet kind, even the diet with

splenda. I have given in and drank some cans of pop, even substituting it

for a meal because I missed it so terribly. I'm a type 2 diabetic. Am I

doing serious harm giving in to my longing for the pop I miss so much?

Have a small serving now and then, making sure to substitute carbs properly.

Personally, I cann live perfectly happy without soda. I may drink one a month.

But, I have a brother-in-law who wakes up in the morning and drinks them all day

long. Anyway, moderation and balance are very important key words. I don't

agree that your bg will be affected for a long period of time, but I have no

scientific data to prove it. Soda is mostly sugar, and is pretty much in and

out of your system within hours. Perhaps you can plan on enjoying some soda in

the middle of a time of activity such as a hike or other physical routine where

the soda will probably be burnt up and you may not be any the worse for having

quenched your thirst.
