I also agree with Poly. The balloon is actually quite small and doesn't

swell and overfill like a regular balloon. Mine was filled to it's max.

compacity after the 3rd Sx, caused much cramping but my Dr. gave me a

prescription of Vicoden(la la land) for over the weekend and then drained a

little fluid from it on the following monday. There was no potential harm

in the " full balloon " .

Hi Dawn,

I agree with Poly and everyone else, this balloon bursting sounds suspicious and it sounds to me like your doctor was trying to cover something up. He or she was trying to place blame on something else.

These balloon catheters are placed in very hardened coronary arteries and are inflated to break up plaque formations in small coronary vessels in the heart. And sometimes they are overinflated and burst the artery. But the fragile environment of a small diseased and hardened artery is very different then a large muscular uterus.

My uterus was also perforated during surgery, but it happened when a very pointed instrument was pushed too hard and it poked through my wall, the instrument that they were going to use to cut my scar tissue. This type of perforation happens frequently and they aren't much of a big deal in most cases. This case of a balloon bursting can't happen. There simply isn't enough force with these balloons in our uteruses. I agree with Poly, you should request your records and get to the bottom of what happened.

Thanks once again, reading all the feedback I got I've decided to make a point of a second opinion and to get my medical records. We arn't so fortinate here in Australia as it's hard to find a Doctor that has much experience of Ashermans. I'm just going to keep trying until I find someone I can trust. As for the balloon thing, I don't know anyother way my uterus coul have been perforated, hopefull my file will reveal all.

Dawn,

Sorry to be persistent, but I still don't agree that a balloon can cause the uterus to split, however much air will go into it!! If that was the case, then you would never be able to get pregnant, right? What will happen when your uterus starts getting bigger when and if you get pregnant? Will it burst? I think these doctors are hiding something from you. Why don't you request your medical records and this way, you may look into them and see what happened?

Dawn,

First of all, I'd like to point out that we have a name of an expert in Ashermans for Australia. So far, we don't have another member from Australia so we have not been able to give it out. I think it is who has this information. ??? Hope that he will be near you and that you don't have to travel far to find him.

Secondly, It seems so obvious to me after it has happened to myself and to so many members with ashermans that you got a perforation from the surgery. You say that one third of upper area of your uterus was scarred shut. You had retained placenta. So there is your answer! Whilst trying to clear you of scarring, his instrument went through because where there was retained placenta, it was a weak spot. Someone once described it as "wet bread" and I thought that was a good description. You had a lap done. Were you told you were going to have a lap done before the surgery? If not, then they were not intending, but after perforating you, they did one so that they could view where the perforation was and hopefully sew it. Do you know if they fixed the perforation? If they did, then it was definitely not from the balloon because the balloon went in at the end.

Hope you get your medical records and clear up all this puzzle.

Hi again Poly, your questions got me thinking and looking up the procedure in a text book. Here are some answers: the uterus doesn't burst when you get pregnant because expands very slowly. When they speak of a balloon from what I can gather it's not a balloon in the true sense of the word. They insert an instrument and pump in 2 - 3 litres of carbon dioxide, My doc said that the " junior " doctor pushed too hard thus inserting too much air. A perforation can occur in rare cases as can perforation of other organs (during laparoscopy) I have requested my medical records to find out exactly what happened and I'll keep you posted.

Dawn,

I really would like to know when you get your final medical records in hand. What you wrote below is making me even more sure about the "junior" doctor poking his instrument and perforating you. Well, we shall see what your records say.
