Guest guest
Kim, I'm glad everything ultimately worked out for you. Thats one of the reasons why I stuck with my gyn that I've been going to for 14 years for the myo. He never mentioned Lupron before surgery, did mention hysterectomy as an option, but said he would do whatever I wanted. However, in the holdover room prior to surgery, he did press me to sign permission to do a hyst if he thought it was necessary. I was taken by surprise and only signed if it was for life and death (eg hemorrhaging). If I had given blank consent he would have done a hyst due to the adenomyosis. He told my husband it was one of the most necessary hysterectomies that he has seen. I still am not sure if I did the right thing (although at the time I was). This was also right after a resident came overand said to my nurse " This is a TAH, right? " not only was I nervous, but a little shocked. Then my gyn came over with this pemission stuff. Ihad briefly discussed it withhim a while ago and he said " If I wanted a myo he would only do a myo " Of course he doesn't remember that and being a health care provider myself, I can understand that as I rarely remember what I tell patients unless it is written in their charts. A caution to make sure you discuss everything beforehand. I do not know if my cramps are surgery related or due to the adeno. although I didn't have cramps before, expect for 2 days during my period, I can't help but wonder if the trauma to my uterus caused symptoms from the adeno. Take care, H. PS otherwise I feel fine and actually went back to teach a class today. It was good to use my brain!. Re: [Re: [Re: post myo]] " Pedro B. How long after surgery did it start?Did you phone the surgoen who did the myo?Just a bit more details if you can. For those of us considering myo. I think your contribution of your complication is quite valuable. Thanks Bonnie KIM RANSDELL wrote: > " " wrote: > > > --------------------------------------------- > > Attachment: > > MIME Type: multipart/alternative > > --------------------------------------------- > I am 10 days post myo. I live 3+ hours away from UCLA, where I had my myo. I came back home and continued to get sicker. I was in touch with my gyn at UCLA via telephone. He advised me to go to my local PCP. When I did, they gave me some antibiotic, but no cultures/tests were done. I kept getting sicker and my gyn advised me to go to ER. I did that 3 times. The 1st time I went they did a urinalysis and cultures. The urinalysis showed a UT infection, so they treated me w/ some OTHER antibiotic. I continued to get sicker and sicker, returning the other two times. My gyn at UCLA asked me to have the ER doc call him. When he did he tried to tell him what tests to run, etc. and the ER doc told me, " Just as I wouldn't tell YOUR doctor how to practice, he shouldn't tell me what to do. " He sent me home w/ something ELSE. The 3rd time I crawled in there a nurse practitioner examined me, read my chart and noted that the cultures that they's done on the 1st visit revealed staph and some strep strain. Nobody had bothered to notify me or read my chart. She jumped into action and got an IV of antibiotics started and sent me home with more. Apparently, they'd been treating w/ the wrong drugs and things had gotten out of control. A few days went by and I was delirious w/ fever and pain when my husband finally loaded me into the car and headed back to LA. I was really too sick to travel, but had no options at that point. I was hospitalized for 5 days of IV antibiotics. I had several different types. I had to take a bunch when I came home after that. I know my experience was extreme due to the lack of proper medical care I received here in my local ER. My regular PCP took a " hands-off " approach to my uterus after I had my UAE in 1998. I think the ER docs resented me because I dared to go to UCLA, then come to them for help afterwards. I endured lots of comments like, " Well, you should have had the hysterectomy... " Most people do NOT develop infections post-myo. I had NO trouble after my 1st one in 1986. My original gyn performed the myo during my c-section, a very dangerous thing to do, and left behind the big fibroid I finally had to have removed in 2000. I would do it again, in spite of all I went through. The results were WELL worth all the trouble. I do think I was definitely the exception to the rule. Sorry to ramble on so, but I don't want to leave anyone w/ the impression that this is a common occurence. Good luck in making your decision. I know it's not an easy one.
