Christy-

So glad you're seeing improvement!

It's funny you mention the " butt head " , that's the first I've heard

it mentioned on this site...Emma had the same thing, I thought it

made her head look like a peach. It was there for about 2 weeks,

then when I brought it up the ortho said " huh " and shaved just a

little bit off of the ledge, so it wasn't so sharp. It took another

2 weeks or so until it was gone, but I haven't seen it since then.

Near the end of her band, when she was just getting to the outgrown

stage, she was getting those red marks on her non-held side in front

of the ear too....we were told that it was when she slept & put

wierd pressure on it, that's what happened. We were also told that

that couldn't be adjusted, since it had to be held for the sake of

her forehead.

Anyway, those were my experiences, perhaps I'm wrong or maybe

someone has a more scientific explaination, but I thought I'd

share! And the week we removed her band, I swear her tort tripled.

Oh well, we're only doing what we can, right? Best of luck!

Hi Christy,

I'm glad you are pleased with Kennedy's progress so far. As for your questions ...

1) "butt crack" sound slike maybe an adjustment is needed, but possibly not. I do remember na had a little of this. We discussed with ortho. Some of it was determined to be fluid. Keep an eye on it and ask. I wouldn't worry.

2) Again could be a sign of growth and need for an adjustment. Is it only red after she sleeps on it - if so then it could be just pressure from sleeping. If it's fading quickly it really isn't anything to worry about.

3) I don't know how often 2nd bands are needed. na did need one. She out grew her first one in 29 days - ugh. She was banded at 4 1/2 months and grew like a weed. I think most children only need one band.

4) Tort - ugh - I am so with you on this one. na started very mild at 3 months. We did stretches and by 6 months no noticable tilt. Then 7 months - boom - back worse than ever. We kept stretching and strengthening. She graduated at 8 1/2 months with her worse tilt yet - check out the b & A pics. So at 9 months she went in to PT at the local hospital. She was in therapy for 4 months. We didn't go often, started 2 X/week, than 1/week, than once every 2 weeks, etc. It was good support and monitoring. Tort tends to come back with growth spurts, illnesses, new milestones (yes learning to sit can mess it up), teething, being tired, etc.

These are all very good questions. I think you can have a very good conversation with your ortho. It's great to ask questions and alleviate your worries. I asked the same questions almost every week. I don't think my ortho minded - LOL.

the same pain, tenderness, and swelling as I did when i first got

diagonsed with it. Second question is does any;one know of anything

to do with getting a jaw to stop popping everytime you open your

mouth. My third question is does stress make your RA worse i have

been having a flare for a few weeks now. If anyone knows any answers

I would definitly get your foot rechecked. It may have broke in a

different spot or even where the screw is. Strange things can happen

with our bodies. As for the jaw popping. You probably should be

evaluated by a dentist for TMJ. They know what to do about that. And

yes stress definitly affects our ra. I know I was told to try and keep

my stress down.

My last blood work showed that my Calcium and Vitamin D levels were

extremely low. My body was not absorbing the pills so I was changed to shots

every week for the methotrexate and my Calcium and Vitamin D was tripled. My

folic acid also was upped to 2 times a day 1 tablet. I was told to start

taking Thera D 2000. I was taking already 4000 UI and that was not enough to

keep my levels up. I have erosion/corrosion of my toes and my fingers have

frozen in place where I cannot bend them very well. My right shoulder gives me

problems now and sleeping is almost non the last few weeks. Pain meds do

not work anymore unless I self-medicate way more than I am suppose to.
