Re; White Christmas

I have never seen snow, let alone imagined I could actually have a " white

Christmas " the temp here last week was hovering over the 100 mark !! and

being coastal it is very humid also. Maybe we could compromise :-)

Kim, I have said it before and I'll say it again. Can I trade places with

you or at least come to visit? I woke up this morning about 4:30 and

thought it seemed kind of cold. I just hid further under my down blanket

and knew that the furnace would have things nice and toasty by the time I

was supposed to get up. At 5:30 I again woke up from the cold and threw the

down blanket over my head trying to warm up. I was afraid I was getting the

flu or something because I am not normally that cold, night sweats yes, but

chills?

Well, something happened to my furnace last night and it was a chilly 50

degrees F. this morning! No wonder I was cold! So my Christmas present to

me this year will be a new igniter for my furnace. I am hoping it is still

under warranty.

Now my OT question of the day is this. I felt like a fool after asking

where to check the pilot light when the repairman told me that the furnace

didn't have one. So the question is: If I don't have a pilot light, what

is the igniter igniting?

And back to the White Christmas topic, it is plenty white in Iowa these

days. We had another significant snow yesterday and more is expected

tomorrow. With wind chills down at 39 below, I think a white Christmas is

guaranteed. Now, Australia and a green Christmas and a trip to the beach is

sounding pretty good right now. Kim, if you want to see snow, come for a

visit, you are most welcome! I'll even try to keep something, not sure

what, ignited for you! LOL

Monday morning I felt like I lived in an igloo. Yesterday afternoon I was

snow blowing another 5 inches or so and now it looks like I live in an igloo

too. I have some Christmas decorations on my lawn and only the bottom foot

or better of them are under the snow. Further I have a 3 foot high glacier

of snow plow crud encroaching 2 feet into the driveway. Good thing the

garages of the duplex I live in are side by side and have a combined

driveway or neither one of us living there would be able to get out. LOL

Sorry I wasn't on the list yesterday. I had a dermatologist appointment in

Des Moines to consult on a rash that I have had for years. The doctor did a

skin biopsy, which I was not planning on, then I had to have some blood

tests when I got back to town. Well, those of you who know me know that I

am terrified of needles, so it was not a merry pre-Christmas day. Top it

off with having to drive 50 miles back from Des Moines to Pella, then

getting jabbed (literally, nothing gentle about this nurse drawing blood),

then having to snow blow, waiting an hour for a prescription to be filled,

and trying to finish Christmas shopping. Well, suffice it to say that I

just didn't have the energy left to do anything last night.

All this jabbing and probably for nothing too, the doctor didn't think it

was skin cancer, or rosacea, or lupus. He just wants to be able to rule all

those things out. The funny thing was, I went because I had some flex

spending money that I would lose if I didn't go. Well, I probably used the

remaining flex spending plus some, then I spent money getting things to make

me feel better about all that pain I had to go through. LOL - Yes, I'm a

wimp. Except for the jab with the blood test, it wasn't all that bad, but I

have a low pain tolerance and a high spoil myself to make it better

requirement. LOL

Pella does have a beautiful Tulip Festival. I know we aren't the only

town/city that has that, but I do think it is a wonderful and family

oriented event. So, let's see, Christmas in Australia with Kim, how about

Tulip Time in Pella with Jean?

Well, we are a real meat and potatoes area here . . . . Here in City,

there's an annual Salmon Tournament held the week after our yearly Nautical

Festival. And a nearby community has a big blow out called the Posen Potato

Festival. Onaway has a Sturgeon Shivaree each year on Black Lake. And I

mean ON Black Lake . . . the lake is frozen over, and everything is set up

on the ice.

I'll be thinking of you today! I hope they find

what's causing your rash without any more trouble. I

have to get my thyroid tested today, so I'll be

getting pricked too. It doesn't bother me too much,

except when they can't find the vein and have to dig

for it.

Owwiee!!! I bruise real crazy too and will have to

wear long sleeves for awhile or people will think I'm

abusing myself, lol.

Thanks, Cyn. I'm not worried about the test though. I went simply because

I am tired of having to spend so much time carefully applying so much

make-up to cover the red splotches. I use the green tinted cover sticks and

all, but you can only hide so much. Either the red still shows through or

you have this sickly pale green look. I always wonder when a weather

forecaster will predict hail on the right cheek and red sky on the right,

sailor's delight. LOL The doctor thinks it will just be something that we

might be able to clear up with a topical prescription cream, so I am

hopeful.

Good luck with your thyroid test. May you have a gentle needle stick.

Thanks Nan. There are days that Rudolph and I could take turns leading the

sleigh. My flying skills are seriously impaired though, so I hope I can

just get a cream that will get this to go away.

Eeeewwww, you are scaring me!

I have an appointment w/ the dermatologist in a few weeks, but I was

not planning on that happening. But now I am mentally prepared, they

will have to have really good reasons to do that to me, LOL!

My skin is red too, I have rosacea. And my forhead has started

peeling like crazy, ick!

The poor woman on the phone when I made the appointment, she kept

asking me all these questions and I was getting a little tired of it,

so when she asked what the reason for making the appointment was, I

said in kind of a nasty way, " I HAVE BAD SKIN! " She just said, " OK "

I mean, what else is there to say? Although now of course I feel

guilty for getting testy w/ her.

Sorry, Beth, I didn't plan to scare you. Have you been to the dermatologist

before. Have you been diagnosed by a physician with rosacea, or is it

self-diagnosed? Have you found any makeup that really works well at

covering the red skin? I tend to have very, very dry skin. I need to be

more diligent with my EFA capsules and that would help the dry skin. The

doctor doesn't think it is rosacea because the red skin area is not raised

or pimpled. My dad has had a lot of skin cancer from years out in the sun

as a mail carrier, but he did not think it was that either. The most likely

thing would be lupus, but he thought that might be ruled out as well by

these tests.

If you think you were testy with the woman from the dermatologists office,

it was probably nothing compared to the way I was yesterday at Wal-mart

waiting for my prescription. It took forever, and by that time the

anesthesia had worn off my cheek and I wanted some type of pain reliever and

I was getting more than a little impatient. I felt bad too, but I guess we

all have our limits and apparently yours and mine were pushed just a bit too

far.

I think if I had been told that I would have a skin biopsy I would have

opted to lose the flex spending money. LOL I am such a wimp! Honestly,

except for the needle to freeze the skin in the area where he took the

sample, it didn't hurt. But did I mention I am a wimp? I have two stitches

that have to be removed next Thursday, so I am really glad I only have to

work yet today and tomorrow and then have all next week off. I am

self-conscious about the stitches. The needle stick by the nurse at the

hospital was worse than anything that the dermatologist did. That nurse

must have been having a bad day and I think by the way I jumped that she

knew she had taken it out on me. I wish I could have had our nurse

take my blood instead. I'm sure Nurse would have been wonderful.
