Actually hysteroscopies ARE used just for diagnostic reasons. I had one done to make sure no scarring had returned. Many docs in the USA do them without anaesthesia, just to have a look around. Most prefer to use anaesthesia since they can then immediately take actions to get rid of the adhesions. Plus, a sonohystogram is done with some kind of fluid and this could (rare though) lead to an infection.
