Pam, I'm very faithful to the WOL and I am loosing 1-4 lbs per week... the average is 1 or 2... and on my better weeks it can be up to 4... It just depends on how many carbs I have, via veggies and other things that are allowed on the plan. =) Love and Hugs, Kelli from Texas =) " Atkins Paladin " 234/196/125 Atkins 8/26/

Guest guest
Pamala: I have been very, very consistent with the Atkins plan. I started on 8/14/00 - I lost 7 pounds in the first two weeks. I have lost 3 more pounds in the last three months. Talk about slow. For about 2 months, i bounced back and forth from 7 to 8, then for a long time at 8 to 9, and the past two/three weeks, its been 9-10. So, I "think" my weight is going down. But I have measured. From November 7 to December 7, I had lost 4-1/2 inches - so I was very encouraged. I have strayed a couple of times the past couple of weeks and had more then 20 carbs per day, but not many more. Although one time it did through me out of ketosis for a couple of days. But 98% of the time, I have stayed in Ketosis. So, so some people, it is really slow after the first couple of weeks. i find that when I drink at least 100 ounces of water a day, I do much better. However, on weekends, my water intake falls off. It seems my husband always has things going on that we are doing and going, and there's just no time to drink water - or get rid of it. So, my water intake is lower. I am thinking that I must get my mind made up to get really strict and do the turtle menus faithfully. I am going to make it through the holiday with just LC first, and then get really strick and start tweeking by leaving off cheese, cream, etc. I had to give up my cream in my coffee in the morning, so it will probably be the last to go. But I'm trying to make it through the holidays first. Made three rum cakes today for gifts. - didn't taste any!! That's a victory. But my kitchem smelled really tempting all day. However, I didn't have cravings, so the LC really does work. Hang in there. Henri 184/174/148 (LC 8/14/00)
Guest guest
Pamela, I am way behind in my reading, but if I were you, I would really increase my carbs. Dr. A does not suggest dropping carbs down as low as you have. It is okay to stay on induction for longer than two weeks, but I think you are setting yourself up for future problems if you stay at 5 carbs per day. When you stall, and it happens to all of us eventually, you can't modify things much if you are already down to 5 grams a day. I'm sure others have told you that, but just in case... Guest guest
Be careful keeping your carbs so low Pamela. At 5 carbs a day, you can't be getting your veggies and the nutrients and fiber in them are really beneficial to your body - not to mention the variety that they provide so that you don't get tired of being on a 'diet'. I think the best way to approach this is not with the focus on how long will I be torturing myself before I lose the weight, but to turn the weight loss as the secondary part of learning to eat in a healthy fashion that you can keep up for the rest of your life. Any weight loss plan that is seen to be a diet is bound to fail in the long term because you go back to how you used to eat and gain all that weight back, plus some. It seems like the success stories on low carb come from those who embrace this as a lifestyle choice. From keeping the weight loss charts, the average loss reported was a little under a pound a week, but most people seem to lose in fits and spurts. I would think that it'll probably take you at least a couple of years to get down to goal, but in the mean time, the journey can be enjoyed Kirstie
