Guest guest
I also exercise 20 minutes a day with the Sit tight DVD I love it and although the movements seem silly I find that it is helping me a lot and I feel better once I have done it. Guest guest
I've been following the posts for several weeks now and I don't think I've heard anyone mention exercise. When I exercise, I feel better about myself and my body. I have lots of " flaws " even though I'm at a normal weight, but when I exercise I feel strong and sexy. I do Jazzercise because it's fun and social. I also take long walks with my husband on the weekends and sometimes during the week if we can fit it in. I have a Lucille not too far from my new home and I plan to check it out to see if they have some interesting classes to take. I think they have belly dancing! Does anyone do any kind of activity for fun. It really does make a difference and it helps to take the focus off of eating. It also helps relieve stress, anxiety and depression. Guest guest
Well, with a sign on like " Gymisadrug " you can guess what I'll say! Yes, I do work out, at least 4 days a week, try to squeeze in a 5th on Saturdays which is, of course, easier to do in the winter than it is in the summer when projects and activities beckon. I agree totally about the power of exercise to transform your attitude about yourself. But of course, like anything, there's also a danger if you choose to exercise " publicly " (in a gym) or with a group, that you can quickly plunge into the all-or-nothing thinking or the comparing yourself to others thinking. But if you can stay out of those particular potholes and just work your own program, whatever it may be, then exercise can be SUCH an incredible source of sustenance. I leave the gym feeling STRONG and FEMININE and POWERFUL in a way nothing else does it for me. I've enjoyed, over the past year in a gym, feeling myself grow stronger - feeling my RIBS when I lay on my side in bed instead of feeling a layer of fat - feeling my best when I am DRIPPING in sweat - leaving the gym and realizing I haven't given a single thought to what happened at work that day or what is going to happen tomorrow. Even though I'm overweight, it was within just a few weeks of working out regularly that I actually started to SEE and FEEL muscle develop- ment - I would actually stand at a machine in the gym and yell to a friend, " HEY!!! Did you see that!!! I think there's a muscle trying to poke through!!!! " And that's just a marvelous feeling. Yeah, I've had " just not feeling it " days when slogging through a workout is more chore than joy, but when I'm done I know I always feel so much better, about my body and about my self. And I gotta tell you, there is NO high better than watching a guy in the gym standing there with his mouth hanging on the ground watching me leg press 650 pounds! THAT's worth the price of the gym membership! LOL!!!!! Another thing about exercise (sorry to go on and on about this!) is something I read a few weeks ago that said most people who end up in nursing homes are NOT there because of some physical illness, but because they have lost so much arm and leg strength that they can no longer push themselves out of a chair, or pull themselves up from a bath! Scary! But the article went on to explain that muscle loss as we age is NOT an inevitability - you don't have to be 60 or 70 and unable to care for yourself in these most basic ways. But your decision to exercise or not TODAY has a tremendous bearing on your condition tomorrow. Our bodies are made to move, not to idle. I remember someone told me that it's so interesting that we have " progressed " as a society to the point where we now have machines doing all the hard work we once used to have to do - so then we had to create machines (think treadmills, stairclimbers, etc) to simulate all the hard work we no longer do! Too funny, but too true!

Guest guest
Now that I no longer force exercise and move for pleasure I find I am much more active. Strange isn't it. LOL.
Guest guest
Yeah, I do. I like to play tennis and I do different type of exercises at the gym, plus Pilates. I do like it. The only thing is that sometimes exercise is problemic for me also. It becomes a way too lose weight or punishment for eating to much. It has definitely has caused serious injuries to my body. What I do now is exercise when I feel like it not because I am supposed to or need to and if I am hurting--and sometimes I am, I rest my body and not push it to the brink anymore. It is funny pushing my body to the limits did help me lose tons of weight but then my body just stayed hurt to the point that I could not walk without a great deal of pain.krnjafe wrote: I've been following the posts for several weeks now and I don't think I've heard anyone mention exercise. Guest guest
Yes, I exercise too. I mostly walk but I have dvd's that I do occasionally. I used to do yoga a lot but haven't much in the past year. I had a ankle injury last spring and after getting orthotics this winter I'm just happy to be able to walk and not have my ankle bother me. I have a lot of dvd's though...yoga ones, pilates one and I bought the Dancing with the Stars cardio dance. That one is really fun but I've only done it a few times. I imagine I'll use it more next winter when the weather is bad for walking. This time of year I want to be exercising outside! Now you can have a huge leap forward in email: get the new Yahoo! Mail. Guest guest
Thanks for all your responses. I'll be honest and admit that I went back to the gym a couple of years ago and found that I was comparing myself to the 50 year old " hardbodies " and pushing myself to the point of pain. Although it's not a competitive atmosphere, I turned it into one and was so uncomfortable both physically and psychologically I went back to Jazzercise. I think the key is to make sure it's FUN!
