Guest guest
I don't think Alieve is a 'cure-all' pain reliever as it is advertised to be. 20 years ago, when I was in your predicament, I took plain old aspirin for pain until my doc gave me Prednisone. Now things have progressed to the point I'm taking morphine for the pain, and sometimes that's not enough for me. I have had plenty of treatments that my mother didn't have because they weren't available to her in the 60's, and now you have advances that I didn't have. I hope you get the relief you need. Guest guest
Hello everyone, I posted here a week or so ago regarding morning joint pain in my fingers, wrists, feet and now shoulders. I took your advice and made an appt. with a Rheumy but in the meantime the pain is getting worse. I have been taking Advil but it doesn't seem to help much. Now I am having problems sleeping at night due to the pain, which isn't bad when I go to bed but I usually wake up around 2:00 am and can't get back to sleep because of the pain in my joints. It's worst in my wrists. My question is what can I do to relieve it until I see the doctor on 22 August? I could barely turn the steering wheel on the drive in to work this morning, and going through the routine of getting dressed, make-up, hair, etc. gets harder every day. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Guest guest
, I could have written this same post 9 months ago! Some days I felt like someone had taken a hammer to my wrists. I could not wait the 5 weeks until my rheumatology appointment. I made a next day appointment with a family doctor who started me on an anti-inflammatory (mobic) and Tylenol with codeine as needed. I also bought some of those wrist braces (I tried ace bandages first) and used those at night. It was still a challenge but those things got me through until my appointment without having a complete breakdown. Good Luck. Guest guest
How far out is your rheum appt? You could get in to see your family practice doc and see what your labwork says. An FP can always start you on prednisone, but it will lower some of your lab values, so get those before starting meds. My doc put me on 10mg pred and Celebrex while I was waiting to see a rheum. Guest guest
Have you tried tylenol arthritis strength? I find that is helpful for me. Do you take a warm bath to help relax yourself before bed? I don't know just suggestions. What about wraps like thermacare? Guest guest
Hi , I wish you much luck with your appointment with your Rheumy the 22nd of this month. I have now seen 5 Rheumy's in the past 5 years, I finally found one I really liked in Arlington, VA but then I moved to SC. I am on my 2nd down here and I think he is going to work out. What I wanted to say to you though is with all the Rheumy's I have seen NONE of them have ever given me anything for pain, well, I take that back, the one in Arlington gave me some Vioxx samples, the Vioxx was pulled from the market. They have all offered Pred. (steroids) when I was flaring or seemed in more pain that usual. My Internist here in SC prescribes pain meds for me and my GP up in VA did the same. I don't know why but it seems to me that most Rheumy's don't want to prescribe pain meds, so don't get your hopes up. You may need to go on a steroid for a temporary time to get the inflammation under control. It was my GP that felt I needed to see a Rheumy because he suspected RA and he gave me some pain meds to take until I could get in, (3 months). My GP had already done lab work. Make sure you write any questions you have down so you don't forget anything you wanted to ask. These doctors are really busy and if you forget it can be another 3 months before you will have another chance. Let us know how it goes. Gentle Hugs, Colleen
Guest guest
Thanks so much to all of you for taking the time to respond. I like this group already! I had my annual gyn. appt. today and I mentioned my joint pain to my Dr. and showed him my hands, sure enough he immediately suggested I gave a blood work-up for RA. He pointed to about 8 joints that don't look good to him. I truly hope and pray it's not that. Maybe just a virus? Anyway, I didn't think to ask him for anything for pain but my DH says I should have. My FP doc is actually harder to get in to see than the Rheumy, but maybe if I call and explain the situation they could call me in just enough of something to get me through the next 8 mornings. Also, I am going to go out right now and get those wrist splints Dianne, I was thinking they might be helpful and your comments confirmed it for me. Thanks again to all who wrote and of course I'm open to any further suggestions. Best wishes,
Guest guest
short term, you can take up to 2000 mg naproxen daily (half am/half pm). Since your appt is coming up it will not cause damage to stomach as long as you eat when you take it. OR ytake 3 ibuprophen 3/daily (SHORT TERM ONLY - NOT MONTHS) > > , > I could have written this same post 9 months ago! Some days I felt like > someone had taken a hammer to my wrists.
